Special Sup Forums FAQ: >What's the point of this thread? For learners of Japanese to come and ask questions and shitpost with other learners. Japanese people learning English can come too I guess. >Why is it here? The mods moved us here and won't let us go anywhere else. >Why not use the pre-existing Japanese thread? The cultures are completely different. >Go back to Sup Forums We'd like to. Bitch to the mods.
Just because were on Sup Forums doesn't mean you have to be retards like the other Japanese thread and rush to make the new thread before the old one dies

Only 4,000 people a year get scholarships to study in japan, and there are only 50,000 US Citizens residing in Japan
does this indicate that people don't want to go to japan? is there really only 0.000001% of my country trying to go there?
or is it indicative that it's really fucking hard to go to japan and there's actually like 200,000 applicants that got told to fuck off? I really hope i'm not fucking my life over right now.
Brody Thomas
Any recommendations on the best writing utensil to use for writing kanji? A good mechanical pencil?
Why are you bothering to learn Japanese when Japanese culture is dying?
There's an Olympic Games in 2020 that will signal the end of traditional japan. The westernization is coming. Your teachings will become literally useless in 12 years.
Now is the time to panic
Oliver Richardson
The olympic games are in Tokyo
Traditional Japan is where traditional japan always was. Even if Tokyo and Osaka get cucked, Kyoto will remain Kyoto.
Anthony Lewis
You know what's going to be interesting? Seeing the birth rates skyrocket in 2021.
Gabriel Brooks
will that be from illegal immigration? there's no way in hell they let people stay in japan after the olympics end
or will the olympics be used as a smokescreen for marriages to take place?
Christian Davis
From the mass production of ハーフs of course.
Joseph Bell
so illegal immigration then
that will only lead to an increased hatred of foreigners in japan. there really is nothing good about these olympics.
Eli Cook
I'm literally only learning it for VNs
Xavier Adams
Norweigens in charge of being unproductive.
There's a reason your country is completely irrelevant on the global stage
Brody Gonzalez
Did a norwegian hurt you as a kid?
Daniel Stewart
no but this norweigen girl won't stop messaging me on steam
she sends scandalous pictures and is looking for a foreigner to get her out of norway
it's bugging me. it's also irrelevant to this thread.
Alexander Morgan
I'm so glad mods moved these threads to Sup Forums, flags are a great addition and should be enabled on the whole site.

If you're that scared of the chinese go to Hokkaido. Hokkaido is also safe from western intevention for at least this generation.

Can someone explain "って" for me? I don't really get it, Tae Kim doesn't really go into detail either.
Like he says >「って」 can also be used to talk about practically anything, not just to quote something that was said.
Chase Murphy
oh shit

Ballpoint for everyday writing, fudepen if you want to make it look pretty.
I wish I could apply for this stuff, but I neither have a useful degree (like STEM) nor want to do something useless like "Japanese Studies".
Noah Kelly
Using 「って」 if you're not quoting something is as redundant as using です when you're not describing a state of being. But people do it, still.
Blake Kelly
女の腋の匂いを嗅げるって事はいいですね? You can use it to introduce a topic like a did, I think
What does Gretel mean by 敗北主義もいいところ? I doubt she's saying that defeatism is a good quality.

do you ever have days where you just forget fucking everything and press again on 40 cards in a row
Charles Brooks
My worst score to date was 33 flunks at ~200 reviews, so no.
Dominic Howard
軍手! 高速道路で煎餅みたいになる以外にも使い道があったとは驚き! これさえあれば何をさわっても怖くないのさ! A character is talking about the usefulness of gloves when going rockpooling. I can't figure out what the second sentence means.
Jeremiah Jones
There are days where I press again on 100 cards. I work shift and there are days there I simply can't learn anything => double suffering the next day.
My anki stats are horrible but I don't give a fuck I make progress either way. Try harder if you are slacking off, but nothing wrong with not being as good as these neets with their 95% retention.
Charles Hernandez
Would DJT be interested in building the ultimate anki deck? Something like Core + RTK/KKLC all at once.
Cards would pop up similarly to core except we'd also have additional information regarding the word and its Kanji displayed on the card.
Example : 調理 ちょうり cookery; preparation この魚は調理が難しい Cooking this fish is difficult.
Left side of the card : 調 音読み: チョウ 訓読み: しら.べる、 しら.べ、 ととの.う、 ととの.える
Right side of the card : 理 音読み: リ 訓読み: ことわり
Would especially be useful for the 音読み in my opinion.
James Hall

>これさえあれば何をさわっても怖くないのさ! As long as you have this no matter what you touch it's not scary.
>さえあれば "as long as you have x" "as long as x exists"
Camden Ward
Thanks but I mean the sentence before it.

さえ makes me remember code geass フザケルんだ!力、力さえ有れば!此処から抜け出す力、世界に負けない力が!
Chase Cox
nope. The ultimate deck is the one you mine imao.
Anthony Edwards
「敗北主義もいいところ」よ。
I think the way of 'もいいところ' is difficult. I guess that is omitted for '敗北主義(を言うの)もいいところ(までにしてください)'. In the case, 'いいところ' is a kind of irony expressions like 'いい加減'.
Incidentally, there is a way of '~どころか、せいぜい~がいいところ'. 一番どころか、せいぜい十番目がいいところ I get the impression that is mixed with this expression.
Ethan Brown
Oh, well I'm not sure either.
>高速道路で煎餅みたいになる Only thing that comes to mind is the picture a rice cracker getting smashed to bits on the road after a few hundreds of cars went by. Still I'm not sure what it has to do with anything.
Sebastian Martin
Dunno I enjoy reading the real thing.
Juan Cruz
Can anyone show me an example of 冴えない being used
Jose Williams
Apparently it is a normal idjective There is the anime called 冴えない彼女〈ヒロイン〉の育てかた (saekano) And there is this sentence from jisho そのパフォーマンスは冴えないものでしたよ
Christian Collins
It's pretty much a standard i-adj.
冴えない自分を殺してくれ
James Smith
Beautiful OP
Asher Edwards
That can be used regarding the word related to the ability. 冴えない頭 冴えない論文 冴えない男 And that has also a meaning like 'bad feeling'. 冴えない気分 冴えない天気
James Lee
You mean you enjoy being a filthy hipster attention whore
Robert Scott
今日もついたちがんばるぞい!

>that many stickers and shit in TK what the fuck is going on here, he doesn't cover anything nearly advanced enough for you to need to reference his book
Oliver Ross
So I have a few questions. Anki is not enough for me, especially when I'm in the mood to grind more. Admittedly, I don't know how to use it so maybe the whole daily limit crap can be put aside somehow when I'm in the mood to learn a bit more for that day in particular.
Are there any other resources I can use to grind out some words?
Aiden Morris
...
Oliver Sanchez
Fucking epic post right there, Muhammad. Now either answer my question or be quiet.
Jack Jones
But he's correct. Reading is the absolute best thing you can do right now.
Jace Morgan
I did answer your question
If you just want something to grind at everyday go make a runescape account
Benjamin Harris
ついたち is used for the day of calender. In the case of expression of time, it is いちにち. Though your expression is very interesting. That will be popular as internet slang probably.
I plan on reading when I actually know more than the like 20 fucking words, it will be too slow right now. Believe me, I cannot wait until I can skip right ahead to the reading phase but now is definitely not the time.
Jace Peterson
Then read Tae Kim
Brody Green
"道路で煎餅みたいになってる軍手" is a meme since we often find them on the road. Though I don't think this occurs especially in Japan.
