Eh. There are parts of your country that are great, but those are usually the ones getting accused of being communists, or un-american, or too liberal (because saying that an area 'stands for freedom' is literally an insult in 'murica).
For instance, your entire western coast is top notch; I mean it. Land allocated properly to native americans, economies vary between 4th largest in the world to pretty good, oil companies haven't destroyed everything yet, gun laws are actually mildly sensible, immigration without polarisation between two sets of ethnic groups, variation in climate depending on your preferences.
But like I said, all that shit is too liberal, right?
Let's examine the east coast. North is pretty good, but problems keep cropping up such as retarded property prices in cities, slum landlords effectively creating ghettos in certain areas and the origin of gang culture. Mind you, it was originally in the political sense, but all your need is your neighbours down south to glorify it.
Let's now examine the southeastern states and the southern ones. This is where things get tricky; while southern states often stand for liberties of individual states, they often exchange them for rights of the individual and are the biggest excuse for any kind of blanket federal governance under one command. The amount of times companies have been able to trash the place, whether for oil, or for farmland, or to cause earthquakes via fracking is retarded. The education system is a shambles, and religion in the classroom, influencing biology and teaching of evolution, shits all over the intentions of the founding fathers for a secular society.
This isn't even going into the blatant racism of the police force. That's right, the south is the wonderful place where all the fuck the police memes can come true. It's not even that, it affects EVERYONE. States in southern areas get massively underfunded due to the lack of a strong economy, based on multiple incomes and resources instead of just tourism, oil, cotton, golf courses and spring break. And as much as I love them, Roosterteeth aren't going to save your economy Texas, stop pretending you aren't getting tired in that saddle. It increases your strength, and stops individual sectors controlling government outlook for the worse.
Now, let's examine the middle states. They're a diverse bunch, but again, same problems occur. Poverty, polarisation between ethnic groups, drug problems because searching and entire state for drug labs is fucking hard, etc. There are anomalies of course, but even in these one of the faults becomes even more prevalent, such as polarisation of wealth in michigan.
A new problem of course is that since infrastructure is bad, and laws are often culturally backwards (fuck off with your shitty booze laws ohio), young people aren't moving there. And why should they? The older generation think most of the rules are bullshit, but they never changed them because 'think of the children'. Now the kids have grown up, and started thinking for themselves, and the first thought that pops into their head is 'man, country music just isn't worth it'.
In short, America fails as a 'perfect' nation because it doesn't want to improve itself, being so 'perfect'. cont

Don't get me wrong, the previously praised west coast states have flaws. LA now has most of the same problems as new york over a much larger area, oregon is doing what the southern states are doing to their wildlife but to a lesser degree, and washington is nowhere near as nice as it should be in theory. But fuuuuuuuuuck, Americans are absolutely bloody terrified of anything resembling warmth and compassion, that isn't ordered by an omnipotent being, for fear it'll label them a 1946 ruskie.
There's even the rise of more vocal protests on questionable issues, such whether inequality exists; I mean it does of course, because last time I checked Alabama hadn't pulled a Howl's moving castle on itself and seceded, but it's always 'where' and 'when'. Sometimes for instance, the problem lies within the structure and treatment of society itself, rather than just plan prejudice against others.
But to be honest, left wingers generally just treat them as a sort of 'eh, they're there, but not really relevant', whereas the right wing pays them so much attention you'd expect Fox would hire someone to get facesat on for all the latest updates.
Similar to how a lesbian in yorkshire would grow gruff and disgruntled by having to live with yorkshire people (no offense, you guys are great), America tends to get a bit of zeal when they feel their rights are threatened. It's annoying, but not truly evil.
However, I'd much prefer that to the bullshit that was going on in the civil rights movement. In short, Americans don't view each other as human beings since the beginning, in the same way the rest of the world is questioning whether americans are human beings.
