Hey Sup Forums anyone wanna teach me how to complete the square? Thanks.
Hey Sup Forums anyone wanna teach me how to complete the square? Thanks
the only square here is u
Help complete me then fag
bump
Right first of all, If your multiplying maae your x's and multiplication sign diffrent
next time use google, khanacademy is good
Im legit really fucking retarded in math
As far as I remember put the x^2 and x with the coefficient in brackets. Half the coefficient and remove the x. Remember to square the value inside afterwards and make it negative
E.g. x^2+2x becomes
(X+1)^2 -1
Or lazy. Step it up user or you'll be left behind.
Are you in highschool?
Inb4 it's a kid attempting core maths
Youre right, im just lazy I already gave up in math.
Yeah fucking held back twice in math im a senior in a sophomore class
who the fuck taught you how to write "8" and "y"
the whole thing actually, your writing is shit to read
x^2 + 2x - y + 3 = 0
x^2 + 2x + 3 = y
(x^2 + 2x ) + 3 = y
(x^2 + 2x + 2) + 3 = y + 2
(x^2 + 2x + 2) = y-1
(x+1)^2 +1 = y
Trust me kid, this aint hard. I know 13 to 14 year olds doing harder maths than this in the UK. Work a little harder and you'll realise how easy completing the square is compared to crazy shit like trigonometrical equations
I can write neat I just choose not to
I know it's easy I just gave up in math when I was a Freshman.
Thanks m8 Ill just use this as an example
Get friendly with the egg heads and teachers. Teachers do favors if they see you try. The saying is true that you are who you hang out with.
What the fuck is that symbol
I have a weird way of thinking of maths but I'll try
>x^2 + 2x - y + 3 = 0
>(x+1)^2-1 - y + 3 = 0
So put the x + half the 2x in brackets, because this is what you want when you complete the square.
But (x+1)^2 doesn't equal x^2 + 2x, it equals x^2 + 2x + 1. So you have to minus 1 after it to make it equal if you get me
>x^2 + 2x /= (x + 1)^2
but
>x^2 + 2x = (x+1)^2 -1 = x^2 + 2x + 1 - 1
So to answer the whole question
>x^2 + 2x - y + 3 = 0
(x+1)^2 - 1 - y + 3 = 0
(x+1)^2 - y + 2 = 0
(x+1)^2 + 2 = y
No problem. Remember if you've got a coefficient like say
>2x^2 + 4x + 6 = y
You've got to factor it out, and multiply the number you add on the inside of the parentheses by it to get the number you add to y's side.
