I'm calling bullshit. My son blew off JuCo baseball, paid college and a rent-free existence living at home to join the Navy. Why? First, he felt a duty to serve. Second, he wanted to see the world. Third, he wanted the responsibility.

I thought he was nuts...get could have stayed home, played ball (and possibly earned a scholarship at a 4 year school...which he would have had if he didn't screw up his shoulder and sat on the sidelines his senior year).

He's more than 3 years in...and it was probably the best decision he could have made for himself. I'm off the hook for college, and he's not a kid anymore, he's a man.

Denigrate the military all you like, but there are plenty of people that join for reasons beyond too poor for college.
