how long has /dark/ been a thing? this needs to continue
Aiden Thompson
its been coming and going in cycles for the last few years. this cycle has been more productive than most, iirc the last one died cause it was nothing but yt link spam from one dude with no discussion
David Howard
Post severely underrated industrial albums. youtube.com/watch?v=aE-dLc4u7Lc >Genesis P. Orridge & Skinny Puppy >I've almost never seen it talked about
Jack Turner
Im a new-fag how joined Sup Forums a little over a year ago.
This is probably my favorite of all the generals on Sup Forums.
Henry Sanders
>the last one died cause it was nothing but yt link spam from one dude with no discussion Most of the threads are like this. A few weeks ago a few threads hit bump limit though.
Hudson Wright
All industrial except maybe SPK is underrated on Sup Forums
Gabriel Torres
Really? I rarely see SPK get mentioned on Sup Forums. Foetus and NIN get the most discussion. I'd say Current 93 too but only their later folk stuff gets discussed.
Robert Hernandez
Coil is talked about a lot too, but most people just focus on The Ape of Naples which is pretty overrated.
Nathaniel Gutierrez
Troller - Graphic is some pretty sweet darkwave from this year. Great vocals and atmosphere.
Adam Davis
I found this one through 433rpm which is a great blogspot for this kinda stuff.
I'm also listening to un-kommuniti - black dwarf wreckordings 83-85. this band and that whole black dwarf crew is sadly ignored by Sup Forums >All industrial except maybe SPK is underrated on Sup Forums well there's also coil and maybe two TG albums
Christopher Ortiz
How does /dark/ feel about early Skinny Puppy?
I'm entranced by electro industrial that is basically just goth synthpop a la Twitch era Ministry.
Jack Mitchell
I see leichenshrei often in chart threads.
Benjamin Clark
I mean yeah that's an essential album but as for discussion it's seldom seen if at all
Early SP is so god-tier. Their first two Back & Forth comps are very much worth checking out.
Aaron Scott
Just listened to pic related for the first few times and holy shit. I'm not familiar with Death in June in any way, but this is god tier. For some reason it reminds me of Within the Realm of a Dying Sun by Dead Can Dance, probably because of the echoey production, vast keyboard backgrounds and the dark jaded voice that reminds me of Brendan Perry's tracks. The lyrics are pretty compelling as well. What's the next DiJ album to get into?
In other news what are you guys doing for halloween? Probably going to spend the night in the Paris Catacombs with a few metalhead friends.
There's no Halloween here and I have no friends so I'll probably be shitposting on Sup Forums
Lincoln Powell
>In other news what are you guys doing for halloween? I'mma get trashed and watch some /dark/ movies with my roommates, anyone have any suggestions? I already have tetsuo and a few other similar japanese movies but if I show more than one of these my roommates will get pissed
Camden Flores
The old universal monsters movies are very comfy
Jacob Butler
I have been meaning to check those out and this seems like the perfect time
Lincoln James
Near Dark if you haven't seen already. Great soundtrack by Tangerine Dream as well.
Lincoln Walker
KMFDM's 80's output in general is underrated. Which is criminal because their early period was some unique shit that would get overshadowed by the club goth nonsense they'd be known for.
tfw Nardwuar brought up that album to GPO in their interview.
Parker Watson
Where do you live where there is no Halloween?
Leo Edwards
Did he actually interview Genesis? I need a link to this.
Asher Walker
I dig all the kmfdm I've ever heard, but I've only heard Naive to present, which of their earlier work do you recommend highest?
I just to a song by them 'she said destroy', i felt it was off beat, unorganized and unoriginal
James Walker
films everyone who posts in /dark/ should see:
The Innocents Haunting Onibaba Kuroneko The House of the Devil Nosferatu (original and Herzog remake) The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Carnival of Souls Vampyr
in response to your halloween question. I was gonna marathon a crap ton of horror movies, and scare my local neighborhood trick r treaters.
Nicholas Flores
The most important /dark/ movie to see is The Hunger.
I've only seen The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari unfortunately. Do you think Vargtimmen would be a good addition to that list though?
Brayden Harris
that song and album is overrated desu. douglas pearce sings in a very monotonous tone but not as much as Michael Gira. their early stuff is joy division worship get to their mid-late 80's material.
John Hill
listening now
Oliver Miller
bump for Coil
Oliver Kelly
Bump
James Edwards
Holy shit that bar looks like the absolute worst time ever.
Nathan Fisher
y'all collect tapes?
Brody Williams
Is /dark/ music the true patrician choice?
Robert Reyes
by the way Iceage is death rock
Ayden Hughes
You have to be pretty commited
Jordan Turner
what's an album in a different bands discog that sounds like Children of God
Grayson Butler
cringe >look at us we're so individualistic we invnted our own uniforms
Adrian Russell
>you will never be a goth living in the 80s Why even live?
Jose Long
If you mean like a slow heavy industrial rock concept album then that's a tough one m8. MAYBE Through Silver and Blood by Neurosis although not really /dark/-related.
Mason Phillips
I don't collect tapes but I prefer collecting old industrial records. Tape collecting seems more like a devoted endeavor.
Ian Rivera
I do both, plus tapes tend to be cheaper. Having a nice collection of physical music is great either way
Anthony Young
i'd much rather live in the future than the past. i want to be a goth living in 3000AD
Camden Price
Is anything else similar to pre white light era swans?
WELCOME TO GERMANY HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR STAY ENDLESS DAYS OF FOREVER GREY
Isaiah Lee
Just finished listening to Only Theatre of Pain for the first time, and wow! Where to next? Should I continue on to their next album?
Anthony Richardson
Yeah I suppose. One of Bergman's most underrated films.
Jacob Anderson
Yes
Jaxon Campbell
Yes sir
Isaiah Perry
Return of the Living Dead is mandatory /dark/ viewing
lots of deathrock bands in the soundtrack
Lincoln White
>you will never be a Roman who slaughters Goths on a daily basis
Dominic Howard
YOU THINK THIS IS A FUCKING COSTUME?
THIS IS A WAY OF LIFE!
Jason Morales
Noob here.
Can someone post separate examples of: >Goth Rock >Death Rock >Cold Wave
I am unfamiliar with these three genres.
Colton White
just go on wikipedia
Jacob Campbell
Whitehouse - Bird Seed
Parker Sanchez
>severely underrated industrial more like severely overrated power electronics
Gavin Jackson
:P
Jonathan Lopez
>not being man enough for Whitehouse
Gavin Hernandez
whitehouse ain't macho. they got nothing on Nitzer Ebb
Connor Reed
How is whitehouse either industrial or underrated, mr. man
Noah Hall
Love Nitzer Ebb too It's very macho, it's music that tries to get you to think about yourself in the most confrontational way possible.
Camden Myers
THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EM I'LL SHOW YOU EMOTIONAL TRUTH I'LL SHOW YOU THE FUCKING SOURCE I'LL SHOW YOU YET ANOTHER FUCKING LIAR
Ayden Martin
>industrial It's industrial in the original Throbbing Gristle tradition of harsh music rather than danceable
>underrated I never hear it mentioned
Benjamin Reyes
MUSCLE AND HATE
Mason Thomas
Oh, so industrial in name only. Actually power electronics >I never hear it mentioned Oh so THAT'S why it's so overrated? half of the people who listened to it aren't aware of the fact that it's already been mentioned and lauded tons of time, so they think it's gotta be super cool if they haven't heard it mentioned yet.
I see.
Austin Davis
That's not being macho that's being preachy and obnoxious.
Adam Moore
>being this anal about distinctions of genre
Wew lad
Carson Torres
Calm down
Parker Ramirez
genre distinctions are important. When I ask for industrial I don't want a white dude freestyle rapping over one long continuous glitchfart
