Since /nbbmn/ is less than a week away, I figure it's about time to start sharing/downloading black metal in preparation. also general /nbbmn/ discussion. Any plans for listening to specific bands/subgenres of bm?
Varg said in a recent video that this is "probably his best black metal album", if you wanna take his opinion into consideration. youtube.com/watch?v=JiFeDwKKSCo

start with the first album and go to filosofem, and while you listen to them realize that they were all recorded within the time frame of a year in single sessions per album.

when I say go to filosofem I mean listen to everything up to that album
In terms of metal I've mostly been listening to grindcore this month, aside from a couple new bm releases, but I fully intend to stick to only listening to black metal for all of November. Every time I do it, it gives me a greater appreciation for all abrasive music and opens my mind to different textural approaches to music.

shouldn't we be listening to everything except black metal to get it out of the way before nbbmn

ive been listening to metal, mostly black, almost exclusively for a few months now
turns out i killed my hype for nbbmn
what i had in mind was launching a nothing but dungeon synth december thread, anyone interested?
Alexander Price
this thread is in order to get downloads and ideas for themes, last year a couple people only listened to atmoblack, or only listened to records they have never heard before, or tackled certain bands discographies. I might do a different scene each week. I'm thinking early USBM the first week, bands like Profanatica, Von, Havohej. then moving to French bands like Vlad Tepes, Velketre, Mutiilation. Early Norwegian bm, mayhem, gorgoroth, darkthrone, burzum. and then ending with Orthodox/avant-garde BM like DSO, and Portal

Sounds like a cool plan. I guess I will mostly listen to all the stuff that came out this year, but I'll also have a time dedicated to second wave, all those albums that need an undisturbed listen, and my all-time favourites.

All this sounds really good except maybe the last week. May I suggest some black/death for the last week? youtube.com/watch?v=65NSt_Jc_0Q
I know right? And it's still better than any of those albums I'll stop being a faggot and drop an actually good bm album though youtube.com/watch?v=j9CZ6ExUHVQ

I swear, the guys from this band always start the worst fucking bands. Every single of one of their bands are just like bullshit lofi metal to hide the lack of riffs and the bad songwriting.
Owen Wood
What do you even mean by that? War metal is characterised by chaotic/brutal chord progressions and a focus on aggression. That Necromantia album is more symphonic than anything and I would describe as being on the more bouncy and fun side of black metal. Have you even listened to it?
>dungeon synth December I would be mega down, although I'm not sure how much of an audience you would get. I'll probably listen to dungeon synth during NBMN anyway, just so I get a bit of a break while still remaining true to the theme.
Saw this band years ago in high school, so fucking good but virtually unknown. Heard the main dude behind it turned out to be a shady dirtbag, a real shame.

There is no such thing as good Dub, Techno, Ambient, Noise, Industrial, or any combination thereof Prove me wrong

Alright. Approach metal as you would ambient music then - don't view the drums as a tempo setter or the vocals as aggressive. Try to let it wash over you and appreciate it as a holistic experience (at least while you're getting into it). This is a good place to start youtube.com/watch?v=JiFeDwKKSCo
