Dialects

What is your country's "standard accent"? Where does it come from?

In the US the "standard accent" is the Midwestern accent, even though the Midwest is neither the cultural or economic center of our country.

The standard is the Western accent, you idiot corn husker.

British accent is the standard accent in the world.

Isn't the Western accent basically a surfer bro voice? It's not too common

No, I think that's Val.

Barely anyone has a surfer dude accent unless you're living right by the water.

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.

Glorified accents 2bh.

Here in the Netherlands the standard dialect is from Haarlem, a city near Amsterdam. (Yes, the namesake of Harlem in new York).

I'm in the "Val" zone.

While I'm sure many people here can put on a Valley/surfer accent if they want to, I think it would be cool for some fresh surveys to be done on the accent(s) actually used here.
