Sorry, but this could have been much more interesting than it turned out to be.
That album cover is pain to look at. Probably this is the reason I haven't checked this before, and I'm afraid I'll only do it tomorrow. I should go to sleep.

I didn't say I'm talented in anything, let alone making something interesting out of field recordings and ambient background music.
All I can say is that the music didn't say anything new about what it's about. I was left bored. Sorry.

Dont apologize for your opinion. I was just wondering, when you saw it and the idea was in your head. What were you expecting?

Really liking Évtizedekre ottfelejtett gyűlölet but it's really hard for me to listen to right now because I have some bad ear fatigue. Definitely loving what I'm hearing though. I will come back to this another day, adding it to my wishlist.

I'd love to see the film this goes with. Wish the songs were a little longer, but I understand it's all about context. Some of the tracks sound a bit dry, but I love He's Close.

RIP Bandcamp threads

Hey, this is different, and it's got a cool historical edge. I don't know if I'll really be listening to this though. It's odd though, I'll give it that. And atmospheric. I can't pinpoint anything wrong about it. It's just kind of cold and spooky.

Of course this is very competent and all, but any time I hear a band like this I wish they'd experiment more. Listen to more Guided by Voices. (I thought of them before even seeing that you were from Dayton.) Maybe listen to the Minutemen. The melodic sense on this ain't so bad, but I want it to be rougher around the edges before we reach the "now you're talking" stage. This does not necessarily mean make it more lo-fi. Surprise us somehow. Throw a weird jazz chord in there or something. Throw in the sound of a potato or something. Anything unusual. (Not necessarily avant-garde.)

I wish you could sing.

>dream pop, bedroom pop, jangle pop, c86, lo-fi

Hard to define exactly. Easier to make a list of what I'm NOT into.

ambient
metal
noise
drone
electronics/power electronics (I do enjoy stuff like Aphex Twin and BoC though. Is that still considered "electronics"?)
house
experimental (can be very good but I mostly stick to the classics like Pierre Henry, Alvin Lucier, etc)
progressive (again, stuff like Yes is cool, it's mostly the fact that when it's amateur it's not often that good)
plunderphonics (same thing for above)
math rock
post rock
hardcore
punk, pop punk (although again, some of it's fine. The Minutemen are cool. Etc.)

I'm also not that into a guy with an acoustic guitar and a crappy mic strumming chords while singing about his girlfriend leaving him.

If your music does not fit any of those categories, friend, I'd love to hear it. Some of my favorite albums are Bee Thousand, Person Pitch and A Wizard, A True Star. I should also mention that I only listen to some classical and that the only jazz I really love is campy stuff from the 1910s-1930s.

you've got a thing recorded w dylan wall coming out? really enjoyed his work on weed and hausu LPs

not liking sebastian crugley and dave roland. you need to get a taste in music bro

Yeah, I really wouldn't recommend browsing bandcamp threads for new music then. You pretty much just listed off 99% of the stuff that gets posted here. Not knocking your tastes though, it's all subjective anyways. Just sayin stuff outside those genres is rare to find in here. You've got to remember that most of the people here are recording out of there bedrooms with cheap recording equipment.

Yeah, it's a predicament. I have nothing against people recording stuff with cheap equipment on their computers. I am one of those people. I post in these threads. I try to give feedback but it's rare to find stuff I can really talk about.

I've actually gotten a cool amount of support from these threads and a surprising amount of full album downloads, so that's nice, but I don't know if it's really the community that fits my music's niche. It's alright though. I'll stick around

Description:

"O00000000000"
-Sam Spence

Sam Spence is the moniker of a man with many monikers. In his newest series of releases, Sam Spence collaborates with a different producer to create a month-based album. In the case of January, Spence had asked Jacob Hutto for a collaboration, who responded with mere, minimal field recordings. The result? Two elongated songs, initially feeling like a loving, natural memory, before slowly decaying into overwhelming walls of panic, noise, endlessly crescendoing into complete and utter chaos.

Support, scrobble, or review on RYM. Any feedback of any kind would be greatly appreciated. And Sam give some love. Thank You. :)

I've never posted before and I'm nervous

>dark/dreamy electronic with a beat
>manipulated vocals/chants
>some low fi singing
>lots and lots of synths

I don't even know what to call this, but I've been doing it probably longer than the quality suggests.

Any feedback is good feedback. I'll get to listening to yours now.

I listened through your tracks and I don't think they're low quality at all. I think it would be cool if you took elements of the percussion on Digitell and used it to make a drop in a track like Ache 365. Kinda like 3:40 to 4:10 in this song: youtube.com/watch?v=S6-kZp0p-IM

Regardless, I like the music- keep it up.

Me

Listened to Motivation. Love your percussion and that synth that kind of pans around. Love how rhythmic your synths are, they sound very fresh because of it. Not a lot of people pull that off well. I think if I had any criticism, it's that the lead synth feels a bit underwhelming in it's sound and could be a little more aggressive. That and the song feels a bit repetitive near the end.

Actually really liking this. Sometimes the reverb makes the mix pretty muddy, but it all holds up well. Sounds better than a lot of the stuff I find in here desu. I'll have to come back and listen more later

>I've never posted before and I'm nervous
It's very informal, everyone just wants their own stuff to get popular, but there's kind of an odd ragtag community underneath it all. You get to know people if you post in these threads a lot. Just be sure to give a lot of detailed genuine feedback and people will be more likely to listen to your stuff.

>kevinshealy.bandcamp.com/
I really thought I wasn't going to like Motivation when I started listening to it, probably because I've heard so many trip-hop beats start out with similar instruments, but the beat is crisp and I like the rolling filter effect and the other effects that come in to balance it out. I could vibe to this.

I clicked because of how the cover looks, and I was not disappointed. It's actually more 'chill' than the cover suggests - i was expecting horror and a lot of high frequency sound. Male Geisha is very gentle.

And as soon as I typed that, I got what I was looking for on Life Is Beautiful.

I think my favorite track of yours is probably Velveteen - that is what I expected when I clicked, originally. It makes me see movie-like images in my head, and that's how I know somebody's done something effective; I have a craving to put moving images to it. I really, especially like the transition around 2 minutes.

Thank you; didn't mean to neg myself, just genuinely have no scope of my abilities at anything.

That's a really poignant idea. I want to experiment with Digitell's overall aesthetic instrumentally more, with other songs. I'll definitely keep this in mind and fall down this rabbit hole for inspiration.

Thank you. I think I rely a little heavily on reverb to make up for what I feel like I lack in vocal ability/mixing quality, and I should tone it down a notch or two to keep the vibe but relax it to the ears. It's good to hear that confirmed.

And thanks! I've lurked quite a bit but never really posted before. It's honestly just good to hear other people's music and talk to them about it for a change.

Thanks, man. I definitely agree on the repetitiveness; I've been making a lot of material like that, definitely planning on going back and doing some micro editing.

I checked out your page, good stuff. I especially like Small Rooms/Northern Tides, the percussion samples are amazing. I don't know if you recorded those, but it reminds me of the sounds Amon Tobin used on ISAM. If you have any advice on creating sounds like that, I'd love to hear it.

>windowlistener.bandcamp.com/album/infection

I'm listening to your music right now, and I wanted to ask what your method is?

Your covers look like generative art; is your production generative, or is it an aesthetic imitation of generative in a musical interface? I don't mean that either is better or worse, I'm just curious!

Yeah repetitiveness is one of the hardest things to escape from when writing music. I still have issues with it when I'm not doing ambient stuff (which requires the repetition in a way)

So the percussion samples are a mix of things. Only a few are original. All heavily processed though. Lots of heavy compression to get an almost distorted sound of of some of them. Really just lots of experimenting with samples. Lots of trial and error.

nicolasmartinez.bandcamp.com/

OUT OF RANGE: That snare starting at 2:00 makes the track for me. I went from a hypnotic trance to subtle dancing in a second.

Rabbit Hole: I like how laid back it is, without being particularly slow. The groove is powerful but subtle.

Conceded: I was surprised when the vocals started. It's like dissonant lo-fi power pop. It reminded me of Weezer but much weirder.

blossoms 开花 : Interesting use of saturation. Is it on purpose? I think the artwork and general design contrasts brilliantly with the music. It wouldn't be the same without it.

There is Something Seriously Wrong with Home: Great title. The arrangement is great. I love the minimalistic melodies and the use of space. The synth choices are wonderful and the percussion is on point. This is the best thing I've heard tonight.

I'd be more than happy to help you out man
