should i learn the guitar or not? why/why not?
Should i learn the guitar or not? why/why not?
do it its fun
is it too hard?. i can only play drums
Im not playing for very long, but when you start its kinda hard, but when u have the chords so you dont have to look how you have to put the fingers, it is quite easy to learn a song but it really depends on the song a big amount of Nirvana songs are easy to play i started with them.
chicks dig guys who play the tuba
that's science
Horey shet. I've never liked that guy's terrible views except when he rekts feminists, but pic is straight up wack.
yeah i getcha. but fuck that.
i don't just want to play other fuckheads' songs. i wanna play really well and be original.
should i learn guitar - or a different melodic instrument.
PROS:
Impress friends and most any regular joes
CONS:
Impress no one else unless you get really, REALLY really good.
Yeah so i said it depends when u play like you just play (u know what i mean) then its quite hard but you get it with the time
7777 get
i dont wanna impress. i just want a cool melodic instrument to write on, and to play original jams on. guitars are also super cool. i want to get a stratocaster or something
Sounds like you want to learn the guitar
what are some other - more long term - professional - pros/cons
yeah. but sax maybe? piano/keys?
I play a stratocaster its so fun
it is really hard though - to be good and original
Yuck are you 15? That's exactly what I sounded like when I got a guitar at 15.
I've learned in the past 2 months. Lost my job and had enough money to be NEET for a while. I have been playing for about 4-8 hours a day and am super impressed with how much progress I've made. You won't regret it.
Actual endorsed guitarist here. It's definitely worth learning. Being able to write and play music is one of the most satisfying things a person can do.
i'm 19, but really believe what i said. pretty cringey maybe, but i just want a rad thing to jam on, the drums arent melodic and i want to play a melodic instrument.
And now you play because you want to impress people?
nothing wrong with what he said
alright you've convinced me. anyone know where to start if I want a cool lookin (maybe old - from the 80s) stratocaster. Fender only.
Jumping straight to an 80s strat is a pretty big commitment money wise. Honestly if you want to start learning and want a strat but yourself a squire. Great guitar to learn on, plus if you decide guitar isn't for you, then you're not out too much money
A STRAT LIKE THIS ONE: on the left
Uh, if you don't spend the time learning to play the guitar, what do you think you would be doing instead?
I swear by Pawn shops and Ebay.
squier is cheaper is see. but i really want a fender, my whole band has fender gear and they are a cool american brand. part of the image i guess - having FENDER on the neck
sticking to drums.
You fucking imbecile. A simple google search will reveal to you what a melodic instrument is, which very ironically is actually percussive. The guitar is a chromatic instrument. Apart from that, go for it but don't expect to be writing your own riffs or whatever your deformed idea of original music is without having to play Nirvana and similar shit for countless hours. If you're serious about it, you'll get an acoustic first.
ok ok chromatic i gettit now.
why does everyone tell me to start with acoustic. i want a cool electric strat
Yeah, I understand that. If you are certain that you really do want to play guitar, then I'd check out guitar centers used selection online. I picked up a vintage Ibanez from them for $200 with the case included
Ah, okay. Um, it's always good to expand your horizons.
Guitar is fun to play. Eases the mind just to grab your guitar and wail around for a bit.
Plus, you can play a ton of songs just as beginner.
I found that acoustic skills transfer somewhat to electric whereas not so much the other way around.
Because it's harder. You'll develop much better technique on an acoustic and when you grab that electric you'll feel like you can fly.
Honestly starting with an acoustic tends to hinder skill growth. Most people seem to get an acoustic, get comfortable with chords, and maybe the pentatonic scale, but never succesfully jump to electric because the increased sensitivity and importance of picking technique throws them off. If anything I would recommend everyone start on electric
yeah but fuck that. i wanna be good. and original.
every site that teaches guitar says how easy it is to play 4 chord songs and play along to brit-pop and nirvana. but i wanna be good, really good. and original.
is it hard to break through to having a unique voice on guitar.?? or will i forever be just another fucko playing shitty open chords and strumming away like a fuckwit
learn an instrument that everyone else doesnt already fucking play.
both good points. DONT KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE. whaere do i start guys?
I play guitar and say this. Guitar is DPS, be a Tank or healer or something.
LIKE WHAT? sax? keys? what else is a cool and portable and original and rad and melodic as guitar?
I guess a big factor is, what kind of music do you aspire to be able to play?
new wave, rock, pop.
music like The Police, Phil Collins, Yes, Klark Kent.
learn the piano and figure... that will give you an idea of how to play every other instrument you want.
Don't listen to this guy OP. The French horn is what they really love.
How old are you user just curious?
I have a friend who plays banjo and ukulele
For that style learning on an acoustic wouldn't be too bad for you. For more technical stuff I would recommend starting on electric
whywhywhy. i want to play a string thing also. keys are cool, but im sick of sitting, at my drum kit - or at a keyboard. i want to stand up and strum some strings
same fag here... tbh, you should probably just learn your voice and look for people who already know how to play an instrument to accompany you. no one is going to care about anything you play on a guitar unless you're singing at the same time.
yeah but i wanna rock, really play some synthy new wave chords, and play quick and fast classical guitar like a punk rocker.
kek just fucking get one then user. You could be intermediate by the end of summer and if it doesn't work out, get a different instrument.
yeah i getcha. but is guitar the right choice for a cool new wave voice?
whats intermediate? playing to 4-chord songs? i wanna be original and rock out to some twangy synth harp-ish chords. will that be years of hard practice away?
i'm going to reluctantly say yes.
what bout his views dont you like?
If you really want an electric, by all means get one. Probably good to learn on what you intend to play anyway.
no... you need to get an acoustic guitar so you can play it anytime/anywhere. youre going to need to pretty much hide/carry it with you all the time and work on writing songs after you learn like G C D A E power/bar chords.
good point, i'll start with that maybe and save up for a expensive fender strat
electric or acoustic depending on what kind of music you like you
ie don't buy a classical guitar if you like rock music also make sure that shit looks cool nothing more demotivating then an ugly ass guitar
the most important part of buying a guitar is making sure its setup properly unless you want to be playing for less then ten minutes at a time get that shit setup at a local store and stop being a cheap ass
Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was jimmi hendrix you wont be the lead for slayer anytime soon
>but i wana be cool and original mayyyyyyyyyn
learn the basic chords first as a base you will sound like ass if you try to do anything else
your best bet as being a nub would be to use variations of chords that you have learned if you want to be "original" ie bar chords 7th chords are the easiest BUT LEARN FUCKING NORMAL CHORDS FIRST
from someone who owns an ibanez gio
>Roast me fags
ewwww
Get what You will stick with. I started with electric, but pretty much play a classical now.
One pro to and acoustic is portability. Having a guitar at the beach or pool,or yes even being that guy at a party will, and I repeat, will get you pussy.
It appears we have very different on songwriting. Them again those chords basically do make up every popular mainstream rock song ever, so I guess there's something to their merit..
dont listen to this guy... get a cheap classical guitar so you can learn how to stretch your fingers
at first itll be hard but just stick with it. by this point im playing extended range 8 string guitars
kek alright i getcha.
but how long will it take if i practice a lot to be good. like able to be original and jam not just like some faggot at an open mic.
btw anyone have any recommendations for a light, thin, relatively inexpensive acoustic?
Ibanez has some really good cheap acoustics look them up on ebay. That's what I'm currently using now.
>worthit.jpg
i joined a band after a couple years (with other shitheads who also couldnt play)
or amazon
Yamaha makes decent cheap acoustics, or if you're looking to spend a bit more takamine is nice
what about fender. all my band has fender gear, and i like fender a lot. do they make good acoustics?
dude.. dont listen to this metal guy with the fucking faggy ibanez shit. if you google ibanez guitars you're gonna see how cringey they are. just get something classic looking that holds tune and has a couple scratches
just go to a guitar store and get the best one in your price range
fender is a popular brand and looks normal.
like fender? or are they better at electtrics?
They make good and cheap Electrics (Fender Squire) not sure about their acoustics tho
doesnt matter.. fender has been around long enough they know what they;re doing.
just dont buy ibanez
They are decent for starting up and very good for beginners no joke.Get lost you're clearly musically inept user.
link me up plz boys. i dont even know what type Im looking for. classical? or the telecaster looking type of acoustic?
suck more cocks metalfag
why not?
dont want to play metal at all. is ibanez metal focused?
yeah... maybe im wrong, lets ask OP. Hey OP... do you want to be in Pantera ?
Metal fag? I guess playing on an Ibanez Acoustic makes me a metal fag user buy an Ibanez or Fender Acoustic either one will do you good they're cheap enough.
Nope
nup no way. new wave rock and synthy 80s rock
for real.. OP can judge ibanez himself... he can google image them and see what they look like. If he feels comfortable holding one of those im cool with that.
you like Suburban Lawns? I just got a reissue of their self titled album
Checked and yeah we gave you options it's up to Op to decide which one he likes better.
more then anything its how you setup your amp thats going to make you sound metal or clean not the guitar unless your running active pickups which are shiet for cleans but all guitars in your bracket ie beginner wont have active pickups so go with which one looks/sounds the coolest to you
yes! i do like suburban lawns. not many people even know who they are. they were around when the police were, that how i know them. their guitarist is super cool. where do you buy their music?
i support this pick. id say get any cheap alternative to a martin d28
end of an ear... in austin texas
Here's an Ibanez if you don't really like the Fender I posted Op
oh ok cool. doesnt look like they ship to australia.
dude.. people who buy ibanez are usually brand-loyal metalfags... i dont think its the first thing that comes to mind when people are shopping for acoustic guitars... just let it rest man... we get it, you like ibanez
the fender looks sweet. but arent there really thin acoustics? who makes them?
no one plays them man... it seems like a good idea but yeah... just get a full body acoustic
who buys a twelve string as there first guitar??
uh... metalfags... for real man, this guy will never be able to tune if he buys a 12 string first
