edgy
No, Tom Hanks
Anything remotely "sincere" or overly melodic has been co-opted by advertisers who use the music to reinforce lifestyle marketing aimed at millenials.
The only thing left is meta-ironic shit for snarky teenagers that's intentionally bad or derivative.
It's over everyone, time to go home.
Is it bad to connect to sincere music?
The only solution is to make obnoxious avant-prog.
>Too dissonant for prog teens and radio
>Not grimdark enough to be a fashion accessory for edgy people
Not at all. It's just that the concept of sincerity has this weird recent importance (especially in music and books) and I feel like I should use air quotes so I don't sound too wrapped up in that whole thing.
Wouldn't that just be more meta-ironic shit?
Aspirational advertising is over though. No one falls for it anymore, do they?
Not really, RIO was often pretty sarcastic and snarky but it wasn't post-ironic memery like Vaporwave. Zeuhl takes itself fairly seriously though its gimmick is inherently kind of silly. General avant-prog isn't much different from standard prog beyond generally having a less obnoxious attitude and being a much harder to digest listen.
>new Avant-Prog revival scene
That's almost impossible to happen but I would be extremely happy if it did.

I could see a RIO revival happening, times are getting interesting again.

>lifestyle marketing aimed at millenials
That's such a vague statement. Give us an example.
all of you losers need to drop the fuck dead right the fuck now.
Not user, but like that famous beer ad of the girl walking through the fog and In The Air Tonight is playing, or more recently, that tequila ad with Ray Leota and some qt, acting cool af, and Bold Arrow Of Time is playing in the background. It suggests that a brand is a gateway to some kind of status, and it's really lame when you hear a band you like as the soundtrack to that outdated marketing tactic.
You're the person that runs this board aren't you?
Indie is 25+ years old at a minimum. Things get old and stale. It was perfected in "Perfect From Now On" and "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" nearly 20 years ago now, and to be quite honest, nothing else from the genre really sized up.
It amazes me that everybody keeps "wondering" what happened to X scene when said music scene is 25 years and sometimes older. The older people are the more ridiculous it gets.
It got OLD, OLD, OLD and BORING, BORING, BORING, and that is the first and last of it.
Oh, well that's marketing 101: show how the consumer's life will be better with a product, even to exaggerated levels.
To say that sentimental music was made to help corporations is a bit of a stretch. The sentimental music just happens to fit, though there is corporation manufactured music.
