Never quite thought of Cheap Trick as power pop.

>tfw Heaven Tonight blows its wad so soon on Surrender and it's all downhill after it

Best rock subgenre

Cheap Trick, Shoes, The Kind, The Nerves, Big Star, The Knack, Plimsouls, Badfinger, Raspberries, The Exploding Hearts, Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, Ben Kweller, Matthew Sweet, The Beat, The Pink Spiders, Transmitors, The Rentals

Expanded to The Cars, The Vapors, and Blondie too if they arent too new wave.

>what is High Roller?
>what is Auf Wiedersehen?
>what is title track?
>what is Taking Me Back?

It's like youre not trying

>what is title track?
I could concede to the others but the title track sucks ASS

How about second-wave power pop?

Most of what I posted is 2nd wave (Cheap Trick, The Knack, Plimsouls, etc.) First wave is Raspberries, Badfinger, and the such. The Beatles and Who don't count.

He probably means the third-wave of stuff in the '90s to early '00s.

That shit is great shit too. Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, The Rentals, and Harvey Danger kind of stole the show.

Yeah yeah exactly

>Harvey Danger
Fuck I wish they hadn't disbanded so quickly. Also New Pornographers and associated acts, I love Newman's work.

No love for Pezband or Off Broadway? You're probably not even from Illinois are you?

The Beatles and The Who ALWAYS count! (And so do The Kinks!)

I am from the 630, but I'm likely much younger than you. I only know stories when it comes to Haymakers of Wheeling. The Boyzz, The Kind, and Cheap Trick.

Either of you ever smoked a joint with Chip Z'Nuff?

No. Way too young and out of the loop. I just realized due to your post that Enuff Z Nuff is even from Illinois.

My dad was in a band that was supposed to open for Survivor but never did back in the early 80s.

You've heard of Haymakers and know who The Boyzz were. You're alright in my book.

(Nice dubs)
Haven't had the pleasure.

What was the name of the band?

Avatar

Oh yeah, I think one of their later albums was called "Welcome to Blue Island", too.

What was your dad's band called? I'm a sucker for obscure old melodic hard rock and AOR.

Surprisingly it doesn't ring a bell.

They weren't very famous as far as I know. Played a lot of school dances.

They ever record anything?

Cassettes. They might be out there still.

Cheap Trick is first wave though

Nah, I'd say Badfinger, Raspberries, Big Star, Todd Rundgren, and Sweet are first wave. Cheap Trick, The Knack, and most 2nd wave bands get swept up in late 70s Punk and New Wave which is why The Cars usually get brought up along side.
