Is he worth getting into? Where should I start?
Is he worth getting into? Where should I start?
yes, unlike a lot of artists reddit and moo praise, sufan is deffinelty worth his hype. Age of ADZ is his absolute best imo.
Michigan -> illinoise -> carrie and lowell
If you're a folk guy
Age of adz -> debut -> swan songs
If you're more of an electronic fella
thanks for the recs
Illinois is definitely the first you should listen to -- songs like chicago and john wayne gacy jr are among his most accessible.
Personally though, Age of Adz is my favorite by him. Michigan is also remarkably great.
oh I'd "get into him" alright if you catch my drift
this
accessibility isn't really that important to me, I listen to some weird stuff anyway.
Is he one of those artists that takes time to grow on you or should I blast through the albums until I find one I like?
He's good if you like generic singer songwriter stuff
oh for real? I was hoping there was something really great here. I'm only asking about him because I heard he's a lot like Nick Drake.
I don't know who told you that, but I don't think he is anything like Nick Drake.
kiketube comments
He is, ignore this user. He's not generic at all
Michigan is great, but I wouldn't start with it unless you really REALLY like folk. It's probably his least accessible album desu
Stop this
the fuck are you talking about
Bryter Layter and Illinois are quite similar imo
Sufjan hasn't put out anything like Pink Moon but if you're into Nick Drake you should be into Suffy too
What are you talking about
Michigan is poppy as hell and quite accessible
He is a generic singer songwriter. I don't know why everyone acts like he is a musical phenomenon.
can you suggest a non generic singer songwriter?
Mac DeMarco
If you think he is generic then you know nothing about composition. Sufjan is quite progressive for a folk musician.
You're right. He just sounds so goddamn awful
Well that's your personal opinion, but calling him generic is just wrong.
Tomato tomato
Start with this classic
potato potato
yeah because generic singer-songwriters are known for writing hour plus minimalist influenced concept albums with lush orchestration (much of which composed by him) and unconventional song structures/time signatures.
You people who say this stuff are so full of shit. Just because he's mildly popular doesn't mean his music doesn't has legitimate merit.
>love Sufjan's voice and his musical compositions
>remember he's Christian
fuck
Yes but he's also gay so that should make everything okay
Still think All For Myself is the hottest gay song of all time desu
Go listen to some more music before you start making these wild claims
>remember he's Christian
is this supposed to be bad or something?
he's bi
he's written too many songs about chicks to be full homo, and most of the gay sounding stuff is probably just about jesus anyways
lmao. Bi is still gay, dude
If you want something orchestral definitely Illinois
If you want something shy and folk based Michigan
If you want something devastatingly sad Carrie & Lowell
Age of Adz is his crowning achievement imo
Everything I said in that post are legitimate, objective characteristics of his music.
I'm not even saying you have to like it, but calling him a "generic singer-songwriter" is just some nonsense dumbass avant-teens say on this site when they don't actually have the vocabulary to critique his music.
wait is he actually a fucking faggot? wtf
brb deleting his albums
he hasn't written that many songs about chicks though
he probably has written more songs about dudes than girls
and unless he's sexually attracted to jesus I don't think so
>implying you wouldn't fuck jesus
get a load of this guy
don't forget this please.
I'm not gay sorry jesus
I would go bi for Suffy though
The Dress Looks Nice On You
Casimir Pulaski Day
uh Impossible Soul sort of
huh I guess he hasn't really now that I think of it.
and yes he is on record for being gay for jesus
if "going bi" is a possibility for you then you're probably bi
...
fag
of course
...
why?
Illinoise and Age of Adz are his strictly best albums
Illinoise is great orchestral indie pop
Age of Adz is dissonant electronic pop
If you like Illinoise check out Michigan
If you like Age of Adz check out All Delighted People
If you're still hungry for more check out Seven Swans and Carrie and Lowell
believing things that aren't true is inherently bad, bruh
ok buddy
bump
(no homo)
I think his folk oriented stuff is what got me into him the most. I'd say to start with Michigan to be honest. It's a great folk album with some baroque pop influence, but doesn't really go to overwhelming levels. It's a super comfy album. Then go to Illinois and where ever you want after that.
what you mean like youd 'get into his music' right??
anyway op yeah listen to illinois first, although age of adz, michigan, and all delighted people are my favorites of his
