That's not true. The album is on a constant high. It admittedly never matches Meth of a Rockette's Kick anywhere else, but that's just because that track was so unbelievably amazing.
This applies. Mercury Rev have always been pretty on with their opening tracks (on the first four at least, which, to me, are the ones that count.) But yeah, Holes is basically the potential that Deserter's Songs had, while the rest of the album that becomes kind of eh.
