and pretty much everyone repeats the same lyrics
i think the most embarrassed i've ever felt for a genre was on skepta's new album. now say what you want about konnichiwa but it was a big deal for the uk music scene, it was a very significant record. and one of the tracks on there was called lyrics and it featured novelist, who has basically been like the next big thing and has been hyped up for ages now. this was his chance to show himself off to a much wider audience and really get his name out there, he just had to do something special
and he just spat the same fucking bars about not caring if you go the gym and kicking your door in and that it's not a ting to draw the ting etc etc etc. same bars he uses in his sets every time. and no one batted an eyelid
it's not everyday same bars, sometimes get a pen out. sometimes expand yourself as an artist

I know where you're coming from, but the bottom line is that arty bars simply don't work. The appeal of vocal grime is that it has always been insular and it doesn't give a fuck. Have you seen what happens when MCs try and get "deep"? Look at that Dave kid. 99% of the time it is infinitely more embarrassing than you seem to think Nov chatting about road antics is.
Instrumental grime has been in an extremely healthy place for years now because people are taking outside influences and drawing from different reference points. By and large, UK MCs aren't bothered by this same practice and never will be. Vocal grime is hyper-specific and outside of a dance it isn't going to work in the same way hip-hop does. The MCs just want gas and so do the heads.
What you're looking for will probably happen eventually when Rocks gets a bit better, starts reading Burroughs and spitting over some next weightless tunes. For now, nobody cares about this kind of thing other than pretentious dilettantes. I don't look to vocal grime for introspection and neither does anyone else.
