I am slowly coming to terms with how full of shit everything and everyone is

I am slowly coming to terms with how full of shit everything and everyone is.

You can't even read a book and, after being bored to death by page 200, call it boring and go do something else. There are 9001 academics and journalists and other pseudointellectuals ready to call you a pleb.

I've read wealth of nations to page 200 and it's literally nothing but painstakingly slow anecdotes about increased supply lowering prices and decreased supply raising prices. It's boring as shit trivial anecdotes yet I will be called a pleb for saying that.

I am at about page 350 of a Dickens book and even though its paid by the word turgid aimless nonsense I will be called a pleb for saying that. Even though Dickens wrote for people with less formal education than 10 year olds today, pseudointellectuals pretend that reading him is a sign of intelligence and that you need ten PhDs to understand him. THAT is how high pseudointellectualism has progressed.

I read Plato and he spent 80 pages wondering whether names are just labels or whether they properly describe (or match) the nature of what they name... I'm not even fucking joking. Yet people will defend this.

I don't want to dwell on books but shit permeates everywhere.

My engineering degree was just introductory maths and physics and chemistry class plus a load of stamp collecting brain-dead corporate wagecuck training courses.

You're told that work is noble... yet people look down on me and laugh at me for working in a retailcuck job.

You are 90 % judged on what university you went to. My one was ranked in the world's top 150 (I only chose it because it was nearest to me) and I still feel like a prole who has been branded as an idiot.

It is hard, but try to care less what others think. Who cares if someone looks down on you? Why are you giving such snooty people the time of day anyways?

Because I'm not a faggot neet like you

I care about the opinions of others

>how full of shit everything and everyone is
maybe you should check yourself first desu

Kill yourself neet

>a fucking leaf makes a shitty post which is completely unrelated to the board he posted it on
>insults someone for trying to help him
Just fucking kill yourself. See you in three days.

A FUCKING LEAF

You are your own worst problem. lmao

in grad school now desu. recommend you do the same, considering how much you hate your job

>neet
seems you look down on others too. you are no better than the people you complain about. back to point one: you are your own worst problem

You may want to see a doc for that ADD, my man

Looking down on people is fine, it's when it's completely unfounded is the problem.

Too often we get stuck in the idea that either an ancient work is shit, or it's still the best thing ever today. What if it was just really good for the time? The Bible is impressive science for its day. The very idea of thinking about how animals came to be the way they are s interesting.

By this point it looks like a terrible attempt at evolution, because we've got much better stuff.

>I read Plato and he spent 80 pages wondering whether names are just labels or whether they properly describe (or match) the nature of what they name... I'm not even fucking joking. Yet people will defend this.

Ehhh I don't have whatever you're talking about in front of me now, but from that description I might defend that. It's an important question even today: How much do labels and realities influence each other. It's a basic problem in criminal justice today for example.

>memorization in college is stupid

Yup. Sure is.

Overrated authors
>Dickens
>Jane FUCKING Austin
>Virginia Woolf
>Steinbeck
>Plato (Plato couldn't think beyond what Socrates taught him; read based af Aristotle instead)
>Emile FUCKING Bronte
>Chinua FUCKING Achebe

Based authors
>Kafka
>Tolstoy
>Dostoevsky
>Nabokov
>Vonnegut
>Conrad

If you think Plato is empty shit and you're too smart for it while being a fucking NEET who refuses to work the belief that you should be looked down is very well founded

it's emily bronte

Kant and Nietzsche were fucking autistic and their books are garbage. Hegel's writing style is awful and it makes his books unreadable.

Should have taken STEM you useless twit.

This has to be the most sheep opinion I have read

Yeah, the canon is pretty much bullshit.

Find what you like and your brain tells you it wants more and feed it. Just be careful about confirmation bias.

>Plato was total pleb garbage, you've gotta read the REAL shit like Kurt Vonnegut
This would embarrassing for a high school kid to say, forget a college graduate

>"w-what you mean you haven't read Infinite Jest? Oh my, how laughable, you pithy sheep plebicite!"

Of course I'm only going to rank the most well-known authors in the list, not esoteric nobodies

>my engineering degree

ITT: nerds and plebs

ij is terrible

don't tell /lit/

You'll note I was rating "authors", not "philosophers". Some of them make the list because of their great prose or unique writing style (ex. Nabokov/Kafka), while others make the list because their seminal works express important points, albeit in a shoddy way with lackluster storytelling (ex. Plato).

If OP wants good Roman-era philosophers which also have good reading value, I would recommend Marcus Aurelius or Aristotle.

>get an engineering degree
>work in retail

You ARE a pleb.

Since this is such an easy question, let us know if universals exist (and how they exist) so we can drop the question after 2500 years of trying to answer it>in a shoddy way with lackluster storytelling
The Allegory of the Cave is some of the most affecting shit there is you stupid leaf

You're trying too hard, and thinking that the end all be all of life is the consumption of intellectually enlightening moments.
Learn to enjoy yourself much more.

Also most older works like wealth of nations will be boring as shit because what was found to be true out of them was already taught in high school courses.

>muh Forms vs. forms
>muh cave story

Metaphysical universals is some of the most unnecessary pseudo-intellectual masturbation out there, see Nominalism. Or even David Hume.
