Complicated question.
If you mean in terms of making it into a viable popular music genre... U2... The Cure... Talking Heads...
In terms of playing good rock n' rawl muzak but updating it... Joy Division... Killing Joke... Mission of Burma... The Fall...
If you mean in terms of breaking down genre barriers with a punk attitude about it and sorta reinventing prog... This Heat... Devo... PiL... Pere Ubu...
Pere Ubu
Pylon.
>All of music has been shaped by this one concert
My favorite.
How the hell did Killing Joke go from post-punk and goth rock to sounding like Ministry
Lack of integrity and jumping on the popularity bandwagon?
Pandemic is a great album
>Sounding like Ministry??
What album are you talking about? Hosannas?
Are Television post punk?
I mean pandemonium lol

there's a reason why one of justin broadrick's early bands which would eventually evolve into godflesh took their name from a killing joke song
nah, that was the two new wave albums that they put out in the mid-80s(one of which the band disavowed and the other which wasn't intended to be a sellout pop album but became one when the record label brought in a second producer and had him remix the already recorded and mixed album for the sake of making it more commercially viable)
in the top 10 rock albums for the 80s
Nice to see Killing Joke get some love around here. Great fucking band.
Joy Division perfected the sound with Closer. Every post-punk album after that is simply derivative and inferior, though not necessarily bad.
Oh my fucking god.
And hero please
>implying U2 weren't post-punk
The Pop Group you fucking mongs
Public Image Ltd
lol no
siouxsie and the banshees or suicide
This Heat you stupid gits
Franz Ferdinand

this
Wire and This Heat.
this is too vague but either or all of the following:
>heads (tampered with the punk formula instrumentally to a degree where the music wholly embodies the literal meaning of "post-punk")
>joy division (the above, but more pertaining to the music's atmosphere)
>wire (best band)
>human league (one of the first and best to do the synth thing)
The Sound > The Chameleons > Joy Division
This Heat, The Pop Group, Pere Ubu the list goes on...
this is the correct answer
Finally a motherfucker who gets it.
The first three PiL records are the epitome of post-punk
Pop maru

Fuck all you for not mentioning the most obvious answer.
Seems like a pretty good threeway distinction in postpunk, and your picks are very good overall. Good post.
