IS7 program was the soviet response to the 12.8 german guns that appeared in at the end of 1944. Despite the end of the war, IS7 underwent trials in 1946 and 1947.
Soviet designers tested the armor using 12.8 cm and 130mm guns. No penetration of the frontal armor.

The 122 had difficulty penning the front armor of panthers. It was able to pen other parts under 500m and with good placement more reliably pen the front of tigers due to how the armor was shaped. However, in a fight the only ISs that would have seen combat against German armor are the is-2 and the IS. Both of which were very vulnerable to the many guns of the time with good shot placement or high pen rounds.

Honestly the crew would more or less decide a fight between an IS or a Tiger/Panther. That and if they do or don't have fire support and a full regiment behind them.

Fair enough. But from the 1950's to 60's is the "what if" era of tank design where the tanks saw next to no combat and thus began the cold war of dick waving. Comparing those years of tanks always becomes "HURR HURR THAT IS MONKEY MODEL" "NOT IF IT USED THE M87656E2 MODEL SUPPLEMENTARY ARMOR" and etc.

Personally, I mostly like the T90 for her looks. I was deployed, I've been around Abrahms, and as a modern tank it just doesn't do it for me on a design level. Looks like a brick.
