shes a qt
Thanks user, really liked that
No problem, glad I could help out.
The best comfy sad album I've ever heard.
Thought I should add: It's not quite as calm as the album in the OP, but it's gotten me through some times. Worth the listen.
I think I have what you need.
Also Julien Baker's debut was fucking fantastic, sophomore album when?
David Thomas Broughton - The Complete Guide to Insufficiency
vashti bunyan - lookaftering
Julien is such a qt. Her new songs are great and I know her next album is going to be fantastic.
do you know when the new album will be out?
No clue, but she's been playing new stuff at concerts.

Just listening to these three, I can tell I'm going to jump on the next album asap.
She gay, bruh. But yeah she's cute af.
Broke my heart when I found that out. My chances went from 0 to like -1 or somethin.
here you go my duderino, if you haven't listened to it yet
Guess it shows I haven't 4chined for a while
grouper - ruins
Anything by Grouper.
Emo Side Project - You Know What Sucks? Everything
Sleeping Peonies - Rose Curl, Sea Swirl (if you like shoegazey black metal stuff)
Planning For Burial - Leaving (it can get a bit louder but there's some tracks on there that are just comfy and sad like Humming Quietly)
Serotosis - Ressentiment (it's not strictly sad, but it's basically drone-y shoegaze which has a bit of a melancholic feel to it)
Soko, Tei Shi, Molly Drake, Matthew Connor, Joan Shelley, Soley, Milk Carton Kids, Marth Tilston, Sibylle Baier, The Civil Wars, Karen Ann, Connie Converse, Grouper
Robert's got a quick hand.
He'll look around the room,
he wont tell you his plan.
He's got a rolled cigarette
hanging out his mouth.
He's a cowboy kid.
Yeah! He found a six-shooter gun
in his dad's closet, with the box of fun things.
I don't even know what,
but he's coming for you. Yeah, He's coming for you!
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.
Many Rooms - Hollow Body

Like Julien Baker but the religous themes are a but stronger if you don't mind that.
Does comfy and super depressing count?
broken twin - may
one of my favourites for winter
This my shit
yeeeeee
Surprised no one has put pic related yet
Codeine - Frigid Stars
The Sonora Pine - II
Madeline - Kissing and Dancing
or Madeline - White Flag
This album is pretty damn depressing but on the other hand it isn't. Sure, what happens to the people in the songs (his friends, Micheline, his grandmother, Carissa, his uncle etc) is depressing, but I think the album is kind of about Mark coming to terms with it, and he's got this great outlook on life that's kind of comforting. The way he writes about laughing at his Grandmother's death because the nervous tension broke, and the way he's so distraught over the kid he hit as a child in I Watch The Film The Song Remains The same, or the way he talks about Ben being his friend. I don't know if that makes any sense this album has just been on my mind lately since I just got into it.
I love this person
Also, Crywank makes some comfy sad music
Friend recommended them to me but I never got around to listening to them until this post. They're pretty good, user.
That's so awesome, seeing her this Friday. hopefully she plays some of these
...
Julien Baker is from Memphis and so am I. Saw her in a Target the other day and that was the first time I've seen someone famous. She was buying Cup Ramen it was a riveting experience.
I saw her February and she played Happy To Be Here and it had me tearing up. It's rare when I could find a song that hits that close to home.
comfy sad is a good way to describe earlier Why? in general I think.
planning for burial - a little less consistent
also, grouper - ruins
and, songs: ohia - the lioness
hugs
so good to cry to
Dude I'm a huge fan of Oberst but I'm only just hearing of noise floor.
Much thanks.
Seconding Crywank
Seconding/Thirding this, it isn't posted here nearly the amount of times it deserves
i first listened to the album when it came out, but every once and awhile it pops into mind and i gotta go listen to it. depressing, but not bleak

This song always hits hard
Yeah. I think funny sad describes them as well.
Thee More Shallows is bretty gud.
She and Fionna are my sadfus.
TMS are great. Hood I think are great sometimes. Cold House being my favorite of theirs. Good choice.
She's been getting quite a lot of attention here lately and I decided to listen to her. Her music isn't interesting to me. I'm not saying she's bad, but she's an Adele copy #438. It was interesting the first 100 times, but not anymore. Almost every single female singer-songwiter today has some variation of Adele's voice and they're getting less and less interesting.
I don't hear anything close to Adele at all. Explain?
I was mainly referring to her voice. And as I've said: almost every single female singer-songwiter has some variation of Adele's voice. Some characteristics: melancholic, sad, powerful and raspy when needed. It's not bad to have influences, but it's also not interesting to imitate your influences to the maximum possible extent.
I find Om really comfy.
my dude
I don't think she specifically sounds like Adele, but I understand what you mean. It's this almost pseudo-black soul singer voice that's pretty much ubiquitous.
>It's this almost pseudo-black soul singer voice that's pretty much ubiquitous.
Take Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan for example. Aretha is a soul singer and has a very distinct voice and she's always a pleasure to listen to. Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan are both jazz singers and even though they're performing the same genre of music, they sound much different from each other.

No offense, but your reccomendations are more about that pleasant Indie Pop melancholy. Cigarettes After Sex or Foxygen aren't sad at all in my opinion, it's just about good sex. I can't speak for anyone else, but when I'm sad, these kind of songs seem really arrogant and ungrateful to me. Pleasant anxiety music is something along the lines of early Cat Power.
Is this comfy?

I highly recommend this OP. Quiet and meditative, very painful in parts.

I cant believe how much feels this song gives me.
On a league of it's own, to me at least.
For everyone curious, check it out and dim the lights

this, especially track 4
Went to high school with her for a year. My brother and her were good friends
Tell me about Julien. Did she do heroin?
I don't think so. I only met her once but I saw her in the hallway sometimes
Just meeting her once, she was absolutely sweet. I like to think that's always held true. Any stories from him about her?
Thanks man listened to it today and it was great
PANERA BREAD
I knew the bands she were/is in before she got big. Star Killers will always be the best
Also hello fellow TN native
She won prom queen and everybody was super fucking excited. It was always some popular girl that won prom queen. She was popular in a different way. Edgy people liked her. Losers liked her. Nerds liked her. Popular people liked her. Everybody just knew who she was and respected her. It was cool having a lesbian in a highschool rock band as prom queen
I have her star killers album on vinyl
So, she's a pretty cool person to be around? Nice to know it holds true. I've also been trying to get my hands on a vinyl, I really need it. I really like American Blues.
