What's soothing about it
It's pretty depressing, the follow up even more so
u mean why is it so shit
if by soothing you mean pleasekillmenow then sure
Because its not as rough around the edges as their other works are.
Would? is one of the best songs ever made.
10/10 album desu senpai
if you think this album is soothing then you might be literally retarded
user different music have different effects on each people
I have the album but I pretty much forgot all the songs and just remember that it sounds like typical rock. I don't remember it being all that soothing...but it was somewhat calming? I dunno, but it helped me not think about stuff while in the hospital.
musically, lyrically, name literally ANYTHING about this album that is "soothing." Unless you're a fucking junkie who finds his own mess of a life "soothing" then nothing about this album is fucking soothing.
go listen to taylor swift if you cant stomach songs that arent about love and partying on the weekend
That's not what I implied at all idiot
you aren't me, weirdo.
but yeah, that's not what I was saying at all. I'm saying the content (Layne Staley's addictions) is like the farthest fucking thing from soothing, plus the music itself is hard as fuck. Some slower, cooler numbers, but nothing I'd call soothing 100% of the way through.
Yep
Lmao did that guy just pretend to be you?
I guess so lmao I was really confused. Especially since he responded in a way that I agree with, because I obviously wasn't implying what that dude was saying. Stay woke, Sup Forums, impostors everywhere
looks like you have a guardian angel
Wrong pic OP
Sup Forums is one person
yeah I guess I can't really say I have a guardian angel because the response was obvious. whoever thinks that album is "soothing" is being ridiculous lmao
Yeah, it seems like a strange reaction to have to this album; you don't need to clarify for everyone because that's already apparent. OP is confused by this as well and is thus asking the question why.
stop pretending to be me
MOTHERFUCKER I am me, (you) are (you), Paul's the walrus. Let's keep it that way
I dunno, Angry Chair is pretty damn hypnotic.
Thank you. Sorry for projecting so much.
hypnotic and soothing are separate concepts. i understand the "hypnotic" elements, but they still make me a bit uncomfortable in the context of the album and the lyrical content.
no worries, keep having top-tier opinions, my guardian angel.
woah wait WHAT
wait, did someone pretend to be the guy that was pretending to be me? I'm so fucking lost, time to become a namefag
Oh yeah, there's absolutely nothing soothing about the lyrics, but I think I understand what OP's getting at. Jerry's guitar tone just kinda engulfs you in this sea of sludgy dissonance that's almost relaxing, albeit in a kinda fucked up way.
I guess I can kind of get that, I just was going off of OP's original question, why the album as a whole is soothing, to which I say it's the opposite of soothing, if taken as a whole. But yes, there are elements that could be considered soothing, like Jerry's guitar. I just think it's a pretty short list, and that when listening to the album I can't isolate and feel just the "soothing" parts, it's always a grating, haunting experience when I listen to it.
>tfw my dad used to play this a ton in the car when i was a kid
probably affected my emotional development somehow
that was amazing.
~
"again?"
same. also, no joke, my dad showed me Trout Mask Replica when I was 12 years old, it's like he was breeding me to be a total drug-addled fag and hate the normies
that's crazy but like pretty awesome. I wish I was shown stuff besides like Barnes and Noble smooth jazz or something by my parents hahaha
my dad is definitely patrician for an old dude. he likes most of the shit I show him, he's hip as fuck. I'm fortunate in that regard. Still, it most likely just means that the mental illness is genetic.
speaking of which, I should try to get a pic of my dad's vinyl collection, he's got some gems, quite a bit of zappa too, of course.
Jar of Flies is more soothing for me. It makes me feel like I'm in the back of a train wagon with some homeless people playing guitar and harmonicas.
depressing can be soothing. Not like directly soothing but there's an aspect of it in there
if you find depressing soothing, that doesn't mean the music itself is soothing, if that makes any sense at all. it just means you are a masochist or sadist or whatever the fuck the one is where you like pain inflicted on yourself, cba to look it up.
Time for a tasty grunge thread
Aspect was the wrong word to use. There is a subtle bit of a soothing feel in it. But that varies greatly from person to person.
The video for I Stay Away is maximum comfy.
misery loves company
Is this the greatest EP ever?
We could start a company and make misery.
