that's not folk you moron
"survival song" is probably the most underrated AJJ song imho
recently listened to this. it's pretty comfy
Oh yeah than what is it
If you like AJJ then check out Hańba. Polish folk punk, pretty similar. Their s/t is one of the best albums of 2016.

Been enjoying these guys lately, "Distraction 74" by them has a great end vocal alternating part that's really enjoyable.
Fleet Foxes, Connor Oberst, and early Bob Dylan are great choices too
This.
I almost never listen to folk but I've been listening to John Fahey lately and it's otherworldly and rad.

I love AJJ and I can even get down with some kinda gimmicky stuff like Gogol Bordello, but I honestly kinda hated that.
folk-punk
Yeah, John Fahey is amazing but I probably prefer Robbie Basho on balance .You're probably familiar with Glenn Jones and James Blackshaw but just in case.

I can see why you might not like Hanba, I'm really into eastern european/balkan folk so see Gogol Bordello as "babby's first gypsy music" if that doesn't sound too pretentious. Gulag Orkestar by Beirut is better as a mix of rock/western influences imo.
A mix of rock/western influences with balkan stuff I mean
>see Gogol Bordello as "babby's first gypsy music" if that doesn't sound too pretentious.
It definitely is. I'm a pleb.
Thanks for the reccs.
Oh fuck I meant to post this as the third one:

Oh Gosh! Finally I see someone talking about AJJ! Does anyone listen to Ghost Mice?
Post some
windmills is a beautiful song through and through. It's incredibly simple but I really do love it.

I'm digging this, got any album links?
What does a young artist have to do in the 2010s to not automatically get labeled as "indie folk" Sup Forums?
is ""true"" folk only applicable if you're over 50 years old?
That isn't alternative rock, it's indie dream pop
I couldn't listen to more than 60 seconds of PTCEP, it was utter trash to my ears
This is what you need
I suppose so. Even our boy Suf got labeled indie folk
Be so weird that they call you "freak folk"
What did he mean by this?
Ayy i was the one who shared that glad you liked it
I ask because, well, listen to this song from the late 70s:
Would you say this is plain folk?
Would your opnion change if I told you it's actually
Joshua "Deakin" Dibb of Animal Collective
recorded in
2015
?
A bit of a bias within the purist circles IMO
Eh, good if you like that sort of thing, pretty average otherwise
I like Fleet Foxes. They release 3rd LP soon. I hope Robin's butthurt at Trump being elected doesn't ruin it.
thanks a lot man
They had a collab album a while back
You're the type that doesn't like Anco because of their first songs
I uploaded the first three Retsin albums recently. Sweet Luck Of Amaryllis is the most folk of them.
And Sonora Pine albums:
Oh look a "folk" thread that turned into a folk-punk thread, time to nerd out with my herd out
