Yeah that's on sonic. There's guidelines for how hot foods can be. Everyone loves to shit on the lady who won money for spilling coffee on herself, but the coffee was blistering hot just like this.

The coffee gave that woman 3rd degree burns. She was not the only victim. Mcdonalds had received numerous complaints about its 190 degree coffee being dangerous, no other food establishment gives customers coffee that hot. It takes 2 seconds of contact to get 3rd degree burns.

She was not driving, the car was not moving, she was simply putting cream and sugar into the coffee and spilled it into her lap. A spilled liquid served in a drive through should not cause a life threatening injury.

The coffee lady was severely burned by exceptionally overly hot coffee. She deserved her lawsuit.

Technically that wasn't McDonald's fault. It was Bunn Corp's. Their technician came and "fixed" the coffee machine, by bypassing the internal thermostat. McDonald's had to pay out, but they got it back from their own Bunn lawsuit.

Except that to properly extract coffee from the beans, you have to brew it with water that is 195 to 205 degrees.

Do you serve your coffee boiling? Serving coffee at that temperature is completely unheard of, and incredibly dangerous.

That's extraction, not storage, and those temperatures are still very high. 205 degree water results in burnt coffee, yuck.
