Should i ditch windows and install linux?

should i ditch windows and install linux?

GNU/Linux*

...

Only if you don't really care about games. Linux has less tracking but most people don't care.

absolutely

hey man how's it going

...

...

Try dual booting linux and windows. It's what I do because i need printer drivers and some software that Linux doesn't have.

has a friendly linux thread that helps out people new to linux

Ubuntu and Linux Mint are good distributions to use, I use Linux Mint

>get new computer
>want to start working right away
>have ubuntu install itself to ssd in two minutes
>apt-get what I need right now
>git pull my configs
>blank to productive within ten minutes

Yes.
/thread

you should learn how to use linux first, no ubuntu shit

...

You will find lots of people happy to help with Linux installation,; it's really easy.

Do Windows first. It erases everything .

Then Install Ubuntu and your wireless should automatically connect.

WINRAR You now have a dual boot machine

Windows is great for vast programs, Linux is super secure (no viruses) and a lot of people end up using it more for web and then Windows for Photoshop, games, etc.

it depends what you like to do on your computer

I just browse, watch porn, and do a few other simple things and ubuntu works great

Duel-boot

Dude
do both f am
lmao

oh stfu

and why can't you learn it on ubuntu?

>should I stop loving boys and starting having sex with women?
sounds like a good place to start

Only install linux if you study something cs related, otherwise stop trying to be a hacker and stick to windows faggot

Disregard this. Ubuntu is the best distro to use a tool for doing stuff. Top tier developers working at Google and such are using Ubuntu. A CentOS virtual machine is also useful if you're a Hufflepuff studying for certs.

Dual booting is an archaic practice; if you must, run Linux, do this in a VM. Windows driver support is superior in every way.

>ubuntu is not linux
nigga what are you saying?

You can put Linux on a USB key chain and carry your computer on your wrist.

Insert into any computer and reboot to USB stick.

It lets you choose if you want to save files on USB or not when you install it.

If you never save anything it's just a computer terminal on a stick.

not op but i'm a mid-level software engineer and would love to learn about linux.

Using ubuntu right now but I don't do much from the terminal...just a clean os for browsing the web imo.

Whats the best way to learn all the cool shit you can do with this?

Basically I wanna be a linux guru. How start?

Installing just a kernel will do almost nothing for you. I recommend installing GNU Debian instead.

>How start?
bing "how to learn linux"

>Windows search engine
>How to use linux

You hoping Redmond is watching?

kek

same fag here. What really is so great about it?

Start with Ubuntu and then when you know your way around linux switch to Arch.

Just do it.

I use a raspberry pi with raspian as a daily driver. My laptop has opensuse but freezes from time to time. Its a real pain in the ass.
*nix distros can be great but you have to be ready for a couple hours of frustration when something doesnt work the way it should and you have to spend hours googling for a solution.

But other than that I would never consider going back to Windows. With support for Win7 slowly dying and the fucking bullshit that is coming with win8 and win10, *nix distros can be a considerable alternative

For Linux Guru, which is called sys admin just download video tutorials.

If you manage to learn Puppet you will indeed making well over $100k a year

...

Really no reason for having Windows. Delete that shit and install Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Mint. You'll find no troubles at all.

pick up a decent book on the linux terminal. Went from basically zero knowledge to mediocre in like a week. I used "The Linux Command Line" by William Shotts Jr. I like having paper so you can refer back to something without relying on the computer itself in case you really fuck it.

i got all dem distros

YES.
You don't even have to ditch Windows, actually. Nearly every Linux distro can install alongside Windows as a dual-boot so you can still reboot into windows to run whatever games you can't get Wine to run (a windows compatibility layer that runs .exe natively in Linux)

Thanks bro. Ill pick that up. 25 bucks on amazon.

The job market for people with linux knowledge is fucking incredible.

>I like having paper so you can refer back to something without relying on the computer itself in case you really fuck i

People already getting defensive...

>Reading way too far into it : The Post

Linuc makes a great server but a mediocre desktop.

never had linux freeze on laptop
using mate on raspberry pi 3 / xubuntu on laptop
use x2x to drift mouse cursor across to pi3 desktop

ssh -X [email protected] x2x -east -to :0

192.168.1.65 = ip address (telephone number of machines on your network)

currently playing westworld in HD On pi3 mate desktop

use 'omxplayer' to play movies

my PC is a matchbox

can you elaborate?

if you don't play games, do 3D animation, etc then SWITCH FAGGOT
