wow not cringe at all, actually pretty good

that is zach hill, drum man for the death grips

A drummer bleeding all over his kit is so edgy and stupid.

I imagine he probably did it by accident, bud.

that is zacharias mountain, bongo player for clipping.

he bleeding so it means he's very good :)

Aw, god dammit. Zach Hill is starting to be a meme now. I don't know how I'm going to handle that. I always feared the DG fans moving into Zach's stuff. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

hella is still really good
don't let the memelords ruin your appreciation for their music

>implying Sup Forums is the rest of the world

This shit spreads. It's not like Sup Forums users can't browse Reddit. Then it goes from Reddit to the rest of the net.

hey actually if I want to get into math rock, what's the best way to do it? I got into zach hill's stuff through death grips and so far I've been enjoying it so far.
is there a math rock flowchart?

There's only two good math rock bands. Hella and Don Caballero. Slint is boring and Giraffe? Giraffe! is for avant-teens.

Check out Cheval de Frise and Tera Melos though, they alright. There's other good math rock but it's all written in japanese.

>Slint is boring

Hey, this is actually pretty good, not cringe at all.

>now

It's fairly recent. I think Zach Hill wasn't as popular before Exmilitary came out.

>no playing over the barline
>rudiments next to nothing LRLRLRLRLRLRLR
>0 dynamics
However he does a solid job counting in odd time. The problem is he doesn't make it interesting, it's too vanilla within the bar, and not even in the pocket. I feel like he would sound alot better in studio than live.

>The problem is he doesn't make it interesting

It might not be interesting to you if you're an academic drummer but I have a hard time finding another drummer who has his style. He's quite unique and to me that's interesting.

But I'm not a drummer though and I see how one could be mad about his stuff.

Hella is fucking awesome. My piano teacher showed me that exact video OP posted when I was in 8th grade. I didn't really know what to think but I kept going on youtube and rewatching it. Hold Your Horse Is is classic as far as I'm concerned. Devil Isn't Red is another favorite. I haven't gotten too deep into much else even tho I have the discog on a hardrive, the next on my list to listen to is Church Gone Wild/Chirpin Hard.

The only reason his style is unique is because every other drummer knows it's stupid and pointless to play like that

He's not terrible by any stretch, he just doesn't really hold up to a lot of modern drummers in my opinion. He's just a good drummer and thats all.

You should listen to There's no 666 in Outer Space. It has vocals and sounds different than their other material. It's more accessible but still intricated. It's pretty good, sounds like the Mars Volta. It has a lot of potential to be hated because it's so different but, hey, judge for yourself.

Oh, I didn't know that. I still like it.

You're right. I don't consider him an extremely good drummer. As a matter of fact I don't see him only as a drummer anymore (for having listened to his solo stuff). He's pretty much a composer. He drives the composition of a song, he's not merely maintaining a beat. He has more control over what the song will be like than any other drummers. He's kinda like Les Claypool in a sense, he put a secondary instrument in the forefront.

What do you think about Damon Che?

He's really interesting to watch, he's doing some really complicated stuff and it looks like he's playing rock band drums.

However, I find it slightly annoying when people send you mathrock drummers and ask you how good they are. The easiest way to tell how good a drummer is, is listen to them play in standard 4/4 or 6/8 time, anyone can play and make odd time signatures look difficult (they aren't).

But as for your question, this guy is really interesting and does some really cool stuff with the ride, and I'm a sucker for repetitious simple beats playing along with the guitar instead of bass.

>However, I find it slightly annoying when people send you mathrock drummers and ask you how good they are.

Haha sorry I know what you mean. I used to do that with tech-death drummers in highschool. Got bored of it and moved on to math-rock for the novelty of it. I was going to post some John Stanier but I guess I won't be now.

Who's your favorite drummer? Any interesting stuff you wanna share?

favorite drummer? Hmm let me think about it, i'll go out for a smoke and think about it.

Yeah well this kid has definitely everything I love in a drummer

My favorite drummers tho, aren't really technically amazing drummers per se, but drummers who are 100% crucial to the band by playing what the music calls for and not jerking off. Like Claude from Ween and Bill ward from black sabbath.

I totally will! this is so far already awesome! Thanks!
