underrated genre

christina is one of my faves. Lace Heart is fucking incredible

Where do I go after Joy Shapes?

market square

bump

Thanks

Y'all like Big Blood?

>Charalambides are a good band

Is there any reason why that drone-ish style of folk is so closely tied with free folk. Not that it's bad, but it just makes it harder to find free folk that's just freely played acoustic instruments

I do like Charalambides though, also stuff like Third Ear Band, and NSB. Also all the American Primitive Guitar. You guys should check out Kim Myhr and his collab with Jenny Hval and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, also anything else released by Hubro if you like his stuff

Been meaning to give them a try, what albums do you recommend?

Double Days I and II

Anyone got any downloads of Chalambrides stuff?

Sharalambidens my bad lol

glowing raw = likeness = joy shapes = exile > our bed is green = strangle the wretched heavens = a vintage burden > houston = unknown spin = market square >> everything else

i'd also put christina's solo album texas modern exorcism in the top

if you want more of the same but to a lesser extent go to unknown spin, emerald message or strangle the wretched heavens. l'etoile de mer and texas working blues solo albums are good too. if you want more vocals and folk go to likeness, glowing raw, houston, exile or our bed is green
radio valkyrie, space gallery, operators & things, old time primitives, already gone 2, unlikely mothers, dark country magic, etc
their whole discog is great other than 'big blood and the bleeding hearts' which Sup Forums and rym seem to adore for some reason. its their most redundant release.
i just ripped them from tidido.com/search/albums/charalambides. it streams 320kb mp3s

really digging double days II, thanks

Gonna borrow your thread since theres no vinyl/recent purchases thread and its freak folk related.

Does anyone have the Diane Cluck - Boneset 10" lp? I found this picture of a bone white/ivory pressing of it and it doesn't mention a special edition or anything. Are they all white or is this some kind of mockup or something. I don't own it but it's got me interested.

if there was it probably wouldn't include charalambides or anything good for that matter. Sup Forumscore charts are trash, always are, always will be. only the popular or shilled get any attention.

Fursaxa

I had one that was really great but then my computer went click and died.

last bump

Is there a drone folk chart somewhere ?

you are surrounded by all sorts of information on drone folk right here, what do you need a chart for?

this. listen to the artists and albums listed in the thread and you should be good for a while anyway.

I leave Sup Forums for a year and FINALLY there's a thread on this shit with more than 2 replies.
Jandek is the Dylan of this 'genre.' He's my all time favorite.

The Book of AM, Heather Leigh, Bill Orcutt (of Harry Pussy), Virginia Astley, Nico and Nels Cline solo stuff starts getting into this territory as well.

Also here's a Carol Kleyn song because why not:

does jandek have literally anything that doesn't sound the exact same? every album i've tried sounded like the same thing. does he have any with instrumental songs? or more instrumentation?

the lyrics are kinda shitty at times desu, but the second halves of the songs are great.

>at times

i have this

no mention of christina carter or charalambides but its a good start
>espers
completely forgot about them. they're great. espers IV when

>no sung tongs

ban this filth

I got you mang. You gotta look to the live albums for more variation. Also it's worth noting that all of the albums are improvised, with only the lyrics prepared prior.
