Montreal used to be pretty much the only city in the entire country, but since the 1970s it's been in rapid decline.
I've classed Vancouver as more important than MReal because Vancouver is our only major city on the Pacific. MR isn't nearly as important as that.

Of course, the MTV is still alive. Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are still the metropolis of this country, but Montreal used to play a much more vital role. In the Dominion days it was THE city. Everything else was just towns compared to Montreal.
Now Montreal is hardly more important than Calgary.
