I think the original is much better, because astronomers actually do use "inverted" sky images where the stars are black and the background is white (it makes it easier to notice very faint objects--seeing very light gray on white is easier than seeing very dark gray on black).
It always gave me a sense of like, someone saw an astronomical image that way and thought it looked like "frigid stars."
