It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

Other than that it was decent, Farnese was alright, looked a little weird at times of course, but wasn't terrible. Can't wait for Rape Horse next episode, but from the previews looks like their doing an anime-original scene. I don't recall them hiding out in a building.

I heard Miura wrote a new story for the next episode so yeah probably no rape horse. He might show but not in rape mode.
One little thing that annoyed me was Puck did not state why Farnese can't see him and then it cuts to Serpico who can see the demons. This makes no sense to the new viewer that the religiously devout cannot see ghosts and stuff so it is not really surprising for the viewer to know Serpico can see them.
Also when Guts says he can't get a good grip on his sword. We know its because of his battle with Rosine, here it just looks like he can't use his sword that well.

If the man himself wrote it, can't complain too much, but Rape Horse is iconic.
And it wouldn't have taken that much time to explain that a little bit. Feels like they're missing out on the lore, and just focusing on Guts swinging a giant sword and being edgy.
Really bummed we didn't get Rosine's fight, that one's great.

Guro/torture can be strangely alluring.
For me it's taking the human body and spirit to the extremes and the emotions that accompany it. Don't know if it's that and guro/torture is a vessel for that, or if it's specifically the act of guro/torture. I'm not really into gore so maybe.

I disagree that Miura doesn't have discipline. He may have grown less fond of Berserk but the man has the discipline of monk.

I agree that Berserk isn't as good as it used to be, but I think it's more of a gradual change, and it's still good old Berserk at its core. I still have faith that Miura will do some dark stuff eventually.
