With an envelope filter or shaper pedal a Big Muff can be serious business.

I have one of these, but I got it as a gift from my Uncle. Guitar is the one thing we have in common...

I don't use it very often, in fact I'm more of a clean guy (super subtle breakup is my jam), but between the BD2, my Way Huge Green Rhino, and Big Muff, I get all the drive I need.

Far more interested in delays, reverbs, etc.

But I actually own one of the memiest of meme pedals - the EHX MEL9. From most of the demos I've watched, it's almost like people haven't caught onto the literal endless possibilities this pedal allows for. PROTIP: I even run my voice through it.

it's a delay/pitch shifter/looper/chorus-in one pedal and they don't tell you what it does which is why people think it's a lot of fun.

it's just okay.

I run a B9 live quite a lot.

I gave up on the Mel9 after an hour, sounding like King Crimson for a bit was fun, but fuck it.

Actually, I take it back because I can see it being useful as a midi controller. The bass, poly, and drums settings though give me flashbacks to terrible, smug one-man bands who are all about playing 'real music that wasn't manufactured in some laboratory'

Do you run the effect separate from the dry signal?

I'm not crazy about the sound of full effect blend or really the idea attempting to play an organ on guitar, but if you let the mellotron/organ trail behind your playing, it's sheer magic.

If you run it through more effects, it opens up so many possibilities.

Yeah, I don't play prog or anything of the sort. See I blend the mellotron with my dry guitar signal so that the mel just trails behind. Add some delays or reverbs to just the effect, you're getting a delicious wall of sound. It's literally one of the most important pedal releases of the last 5 years, and yet everybody just wants to be play Strawberry Fields and King Crimson. I don't want to give away my secrets, but this will turn ANY signal into a mellotron. ANYTHING!

I play powerpop for chrissakes. It's just that swell of faraway strings or flute coming in subtly from the background that adds extra magic to your playing. I don't use it to replace my guitar work, I use it to augment the notes I'm playing as if there's somebody following along with me.

I run the organ sound to a KC350 Roland separate, yeah.

that's about as memey as it gets but I have a really soft spot in my heart for Danelectro. They make unapologetically goofy retro stuff all the time, and their FAB pedals are great for beginners who want cheap-but-decent effects.

When I was in high school there was this guy who was absolute garbage at guitar and he had one of these. Dude thought he was Tom Morello, and every time he turned it on it would make me want to vomit.

Had bad past personal dealings. Also, there's an Eau Claire Thunder at my local GC that's broken, and the employees have emailed several times asking if they could pay him to send it in and fix it and he keeps blowing them off because he's got some GC hate. The workers there are crazy nice.
