my bunny is sick right now, he has GI Stasis which is a common bunny killer. i'm staying up all night giving him belly rubs to ease his pain until the morning when i can take him to the vets :( he's my best friend and i don't know what i'd do if i lost him. he's the reason i haven't killed myself yet

thanks guys. i really don't think i've felt this bad before. he's refusing to eat or drink so i'm having to force him to take it with a syringe. it's happened to him once before 3 months ago and he pulled through after taking him to the vets and getting meds. i can't believe it's happening again so soon

thank you for the kind words. it really means a lot to me. just 3 hours until the morning and i can get to a vet and hopefully sort him out.
last night when i noticed he was getting sick i ran 2 miles to the nearest store still open to get him some gas medicine. i got here a few minutes before the store closed, and found out when i got back that i picked up the wrong stuff. :/
emergency vets aren't really an option since theres so few vets that specialise in rabbits where i am.
i can afford the cost of the vets so it's not needed but thank you.

Hey buddy, my bun Simba just got over a GI stasis battle. As long as you caught it early enough, a vet should be able to give him laxatives and medicine to get his guts moving again. Well wishes to yours

My rabbit died after I tried rushing him to three different vets Friday afternoon. He wasnt energetic, his head limp, and breathing weak.
I took him to two vets before one said they could save him, he had pneumonia and I paid $500 to help him. I took him home that day with medicine and him seeming a bit more energetic, even giving me some licks on my hand.
Then, he started convulsing in my arms, I put him down and he continued to have a short seizure before just falling to his side, his breath slowing down. I picked him up and asked him not to go, I told him I loved him, and then his heart stopped.
I wanted him to let me pick him up, but not like this, not on the day he would die.
He would've turned 1 on my birthday in a couple of weeks .

If it's any consolation, OP, I strongly recommend getting a kitten or a pair of siblings. Should your bun pass away in the future, they'd be there for you. It's how I'm dealing with my crippling depression of losing my bun too.

if things get worse, and he passes, get another bunny and give him/her the best life possible.
Other than that, if he lives, grab another bunny, or small pet, so that when they eventually pass, you can cope a little better, hang in there lil fag, we aint all hitler
you just need to get some fiber into your bun. grind up some timothy hay or pellets, mix with water and put in a syringe, then squeeze some into their mouth. This and tummy massages should help get the g.i. tract going. If you have to, go to an afterhours emergency clinic/animal hospital, they can treat gi stasis

Goddammit, OP... making me feel feelings and shit. I own three bunnies myself. I know what it's like to have to treat them when they're not well. Just make sure they get lots of timothy hay, NO PELLETS, and plenty of water. The belly rubs will help. Any poops are good poops, even if they're really tiny. If you have fresh carrots, those will work, too.

i fell like i saw his behaviour change within 10 minutes. he was eating hay and acting fine then the next time i looked he was laying down strangely with his stomach making loud gargling noises.
he's starting to eat his pellets on his own, but only like 1 or 2 every 10 minutes. i'm feeling a lot more positive but still shaking almost as much as him.
i'm so sorry user that is heartbreaking, such a cute little guy. no bunny deserves to die so young.
i've thought about wether i would get another pet after he is gone but i don't know if i could. i didn't really pick my bun out, he was basically abandoned by my sister who didn't care for him and borderline abused him. before he was going to the animal shelter i took him in and he's been my best friend since. i feel like another pet would devalue his significance in my life, but maybe that's not how it would actually play out

Take some of his dry food and hay grind it to a powder mix with water or getbaby food (bananas, carrots, squash, etc) and use a plastic syringe no needle and fill to 3-cc to force feed him, if he has not eaten in 8 hours his stomach will be filled with gas and it will kill him so go on google and find out how to feed him or what else you might need

Oh man, I used to have a bunny like that. One day he was just completely paralized and unable to move, but still breathing with difficulty. Spent all night beside him trying to feed him smashed banana and water, and keeping him warm. In the morning, he was a bit better, but he pissed on himself and some flies laid eggs on his legs, which in a few hours became worms and began eating his flesh. It was really horrible to watch.
No vet wanted to treat him. They all said "bunnies are fragile, let him die". All I could do is ask my mom for help. She's a medic so we decided that our only chance was to anesthesize the bunny and try to remove all the worms manually and clean his wounds.
We anesthesized him a bit, and began extracting the worms from his flesh. I could see it was painful to him, but after a while we removed most of the worms and he began to calm down.
There were so many worms that we had to anesthesize him once more. Unfortunately, he couldnt't stand this much medicine and began to seizure. I knew something was very wrong.
After a few seconds, I felt him go cold, still, and his heart stopped beating. His eyes were no longer bright. He had passed away, in my arms, while trying to save him.
One of the saddest events in my life, no doubt about it. I hope he understood that I did my best to try to save him. No vet wanted to cure him. Me and my mom did what we thought was the best we could do. Unfortunately, it didn't work :(

i'm trying to get him to eat some kale i got for him last night and medow hay. he used to love timothy hay but since the last time this happened he's refused to eat timothy hay at all.

It's tough to tell. I would say that it's best to feed him fresh vegetables. The carrots would be best, if he doesn't want timothy hay.
The problem with pellets is that, oftentimes new owners don't think there's anything wrong with just giving it to their buns. Pellets, however, are *highly* nutritious (that's bad in this instance). They're full of calcium, and bunnies don't need much in order to get by. Before long, they end up with stones, UTIs, and such.
Timothy hay, however, they can eat for as long as they goddamn please.
