Analog recording equipment helps a lot, but even on digital it can work. Just study old production styles and start by imitating them, and then you can tweak it and find a method you really like.
True love doesn't necessarily mean romantic love. I would imagine most people who are kind and aren't dicks to people have some one who loves them in some way or another.
