lots of our golden generation players who played during the 2010 and 2014 WC (probably on par with our 1998 squad) just grew old and retired, those are big shoes to fill for our new generation.

there were just too many compromises and unfortunate injuries to some of our more vital players who were supposed to make the cut, our new manager (who is also completely unfit for the position of being manager, considering this is his first gig and has no experience whatsoever) also screwed up enormously in his selection of players (he's particularly biased towards players who played at his old team, he left home some of the biggest talents in the country in favor of Ajax players) and employed horrible strategies.

that and our players just didn't play well.
