they were then but now it's overrated to say they're bad. they're a really good blues rock group
alt rock is really worse than dad rock when it comes down to it because there's hardly anything unique about rock today vs rock from late 60s to 70s

Yeah zep were revolutionary in terms of the sound of their records, maybe the emphasis on bigness detracted from a certain melodic fluidity, but I always thought Jimmy played the right notes in his scalar boxes most of the time and he placed them so commandingly. Everybody in the band is dedicated to the sonic concept and they really play well together. I don't think their interplay is intellectually stimulating or whatever the jazzers require, but they really excite me on a base level
