I think what defines a good album cover is one that is an accurate visual representation of the sound of the album. By that criteria, a lot of the ones in this thread are not good at all. Of course visual art is a subjective medium so I won't diss anyone's taste - if you for some reason like the way it looks that itself makes it a good album cover to some degree.
Pic related, whether you love the album or hate it, is a very good cover.
Some of my other favourites would be Boris - Flood, Black Flag - Damaged, Butthole Surfers - Psychic... Powerless and CAN - Soon Over Babaluma.
Hopefully people will find this post thought-provoking yet inoffensive.
