Both the death and doom metal genres offer straight up no frills the two things metal genre has been known for. Both genres deliver some sexy ass riffs. Death Metal goes for the more savage route of delivering a wide variety of riffs in an intense manner (if we average up the intricacy of individual riffs and the amount of riffs per track within each genre, death metal comes out on top with both averages.) Doom Metal's thing is doing the less fast savage but more heavy and groovy aspect of metal and thus excels in delivering less intricate but still bumping riffs.

Thrash Metal
Thrash does its job very well, and has as a genre arguably the highest percentage of records you just can't go wrong with. Also the entry point for many of those who really want to start getting into metal. But once we really start looking at its qualities, you realize that it becomes kinda obsolete due to the creation of Death Metal that only delivers more of what Thrash offers (even if its initially harder to digest compared to thrash).

Black Metal's whole MO is doing things atypical of metal, and in a way that's cool I guess. But outside the cool riff-heavy albums, a lot of other black metal just sounds like inferior takes on other genres. A lot of it just feels like crappy takes on minimalist drones, then lets not forget that the genre also has too many gimmick bands arguably more than any other metal genre.
Traditional has all the classic stuff, and yeah a lot of the best stuff, too. But overall a lot of this stuff is ultimately hindering its status as metal by being too close to being "rock" as well.
