The interesting thing is that modern music can in some ways be seen as a step back towards the origins of manmade music, wich was just rythm and shouting and things like that. Music has allways been a part of human culture and it used to be a tribal ritual, and it was oftenly infused with storytelling, jokes, political critism etc. I have to disagree on the notion "Music these days" because for one it is a matter of taste and secondly there is plenty of good music as well, it just so happens that much of the more interesting music does reach a wide crowd. Even Bach in his time was critisized for his music, I have a feeling that this will allways continue with all musicians. All of the great classical composers are simmilar in the aspect that they searched for new things, new ideas, so that music might evolve. Popular music might not be a great example since it is hardly an evolved form with it's painful simplicity, but it is worth taking note of aspects in popular music, I mean there is a reason why so many people enjoy it and there is a reason why it has become an important part of so many people's lives(just a thought). I love the music from the great classical composers, but what a sad world it would be if we just repeat that all the time. They were artists, they brought new ideas into their work and made their work instill emotion in the hearts of people, and being thought provoking as well, because of the new ideas it brought to music, but it is hardly new anymore, beautiful but not new. We as musicians should not dwell on the past too much, I think it is our job to try to explain the world around us and the things we see, think and feel as well. And we do not see or understand the world of hundreds of years ago because it is not where we are, it is not our reality. Hating something will only limit yourself, that is my opinion.

As a heads up, the black keys and arctic monkeys are touring together. It's gonna be awesome!

Both gay.

Funny thing about that. Pandora also mentions that in the band description but states they have no correspondence.

Mind was still blown when I first read that too, nevertheless.

Musically they are similar, both are rock duos (not too common) where one member handles percussion and the other is a singer/guitarist. Also they are both from the same midwest region in the USA, but Jack White said in an interview that they have never met.

Isn't the White Stripes about drugs? Specifically, lines of cocaine? Neither of them play piano/keyboard.

[–]Salivation_Army 1 point 4 years ago

Jack White does play piano. And none of their songs are about drugs, but maybe?

I just ignore the ignorant and stupid when it comes to music. It use to make me sooooo mad when idiots would criticize what i listened to and have no idea what they are talking about.

[–]Robosocks[S] 10 points 5 years ago

Agreed, I don't listen to bands like Iron Maiden or Metallica(Spelling?) but I don't criticize those who do. The world would be a better place without people like our friend "Herptard" here.

I have this problem all the time. Apparently if it wasn't made with an auto tune machine and a synth, it's metal, goth or emo...

permalinkembed

[–]Pendit76 7 points 5 years ago

Yeah. People say like Soundgarden is emo.

[–]ADangerousMan 5 points 5 years ago*

fyi, a vocoder or "auto tune machine" usually is part of a synthesizer

Yeah, that's the other side of the coin. Those tools do have merit. At least I think that's what you were getting at.
