did Schoenberg take Cage seriously?

>In an interview with Dutch composer, pianist and conductor Reinbert de Leeuw, Reinbert told he watched a biography of Cage. He told that Schoenberg said: "Cage knows nothing of harmony. Absolutely nothing. He is an inventor, in heart and soul a musical inventor." Schoenberg himself is very much about harmony.

I like Schoenberg transcriptions

What are your thoughts on Glenn Gould?

I like his baroque and serialist works (even if his Bach is heretic at best).

All of his common practice and romantic recordings are utter trash.

These "x was an FBI/CIA agent" OPs are starting to get less and less funny

>even if his Bach is heretic at best

Who do you recommend for a more accurate performer?

Nah, it's a nice meme.

Can someone upload CLT and Calcium's folders to MEGA again?

Leonhardt on harpsichord and Walcha on organ.

Richter, Feinberg, E. Fischer

"Intimate Letters" > "Kreutzersonate"

Yes

Is he based af?

Sometimes.

Scott Ross WTC and Partitas

thoughts on peter maxwell davies?

Just seen this guy live. Shit was tight, except for the old people coughing their lungs out.
Is this a common thing where you guys live? 90-95% of the audiences I see are pensioners.

How would you describe the tonality of this?

m.youtube.com/watch?v=sFf3Mt7Cg1M

Strauss clearly wasn't that talented but he made up for it with dedication and ambition.

>muh imperial decadence grand waltzing dreck
god I hate Viennese waltzes

atonal

lucky

what was the programme?

It's in A, pretty straightforward. Goes from A minor to A mixolydian.

some asshole told me it was Locrian.

Schubert - Imprompti 1 & 4 D899, Moments Musicaux D780
Mozart - Sonata KV533
Haydn - Sonata hob 49
Beethoven - Bagatelles op126

Mozart was particularly interesting, noticeably different from the version I'm familiar with (Barenboim) I'll have to listen to his recording of kv300-2 sometime.

kv330-2*

his schubert/mozart recordings are fairly top-tier. he's probably the best HIPster.

Andras Schiff

What sort of instrument was he playing?

>Strauss clearly wasn't that talented
A mediocre talent couldn't have composed Don Juan at 23.

Hindemith's generally easy postings were not to last however, and after a transfer to Flanders in May he experienced the Front for the first time. He wrote in his diary:

>Towards evening eight bombs landed near the town. One hit the ammunition convoy that was camping 10 minutes away from us...A horrible sight. Blood, bodies full of holes, brain, a torn-off horse's head, splintered bones. Dreadful! How mean and indifferent one becomes. I don't think I could have eaten or worked in peace after seeing such a sight – and now one sits at home again, writing, chatting, in a good mood – not thinking about how soon the bell could also toll for us - are we going to withdraw unharmed?

well I didn't say he was talentless but he's not a prodigy like the other a-list composers. By his own admission said 'I may not be a first-rate composer, but I am a first-class second-rate composer.'

Happy birthday Beethoven!

Autist.

pretty pleaseeeee?

Does Messiah live up to the hype in your opinion?

I don't even think Handel himself lives up to the hype

redpill me on asians in classical music

classical noob here. can someone recommend something that's beautiful, sad, and perhaps minimalistic?

this

just go listen Gymnopédies

we all know that's what you want

Lang Lang disgusts me.

herro hater

>Schitt
>ever
Do you want him to hate Bach?

hey guys do you have some nice lossless schubert ave marias?

eh.. this isn't really what i want. it's hard for me to say why though. i think it's too passive and reflective. i would like something that's beautiful in a religious revelation kind of way, not in a moping in a cafe while watching the rain out the window kind of way.

does that make any sense?

...

it's a legit question gramps

does such a thing as an ave maria compilation exist

i just like the piece

youtube.com/watch?v=taanHO13WXE

How about Hildegard von Bingen?

yeah this is great thank you! any recommendations for further listening? or should i just check out the related youtube videos

hey /classical/, uninitiated bastard here

i know very little of music, but i've fallen in love with traditional choir work. the most i can name is Miserere Mei Deus by Allegri.

is there more in the OP? where do i go from here?

I would say search the archive for Hildegard von Bingen and ill probably say some nice recs there

perfect there's a bunch of stuff here. i'm dling 11,000 virgins right now. thanks again user

no prob

Easily the funniest album cover of all time.

"11,000 Virgins 4 Anonymous"

T-thanks

creepy guy
Richter

I've yet to see a sound criticism of Schiff. His Bach is 10/10. I'm downloading his 2011 WTC as we speak.

kek

Ayoooo
If OP is still here, I'd like that Debussy chart.

thanks for the rec, although i've actually heard this one before. i love arvo part, and my original request was probably based on the fact that i would like to find more like him

atonal more like gaytonal

You are all complete dunderheads.

how has nobody mentioned Koopman?

Also, if you dig Gould, checking out Rosalyn Tureck can be a nice treat. I actually prefer her Goldberg V.s to Gould's.

So trying to learn relative pitch now. Is there a better way of getting a feel for the intervals other than associating them with pieces of music you already know? This feels like a crutch and it seems like it would be distracting when you need to identify them in a totally different context

I don't know if there are other methods, but the one you've described will work in the long run. You are still in the stage in wich you have to identify the pitch, but somewhere in your future it will be basically automatic. You won't need to recognize that interval you're struggling with because at that point you will have done that thousands of times.

wrong strauss you fucking retard

>"The Complete pieces for instrument"
>it's not the complete pieces for instrument
why are classical albums so fucking lame

>want to buy Gould's WTC on vinyl
>tfw too autistic to own recordings with people's faces in their covers

all strausses suck anyway

>Koopman
a Mario 64 character

Arvo Part

...

Part is satan confirmed

atonal more like ayyytonal

nice trips, but see

honest thoughts on this?

wtf does a vaporwave memester have any business doing in a classical thread?

have you listened to it? it's classical. the sheet music is online somewhere

youtube.com/watch?v=0jikeQdzv3s

Can anyone recommend more pieces as explicitly Mixolydian as this?

Why do lutenists breathe so loudly?

I'm pretty sure that it's due to amplification. Lutes are not that loud.

the last good composer was Ravel

You're forgetting Carl Orff.

That makes sense. I've never heard one in person so I don't have exact knowledge how loud they are.

are you fucking kidding me?

Einojuhani Rautavaara

Mixolydian is the pleb mode. Its even more alligned with the overtone series than major. Its musical pablum

quite the opposite is true, he was an eminent musician at a very early age. Much earlier than other composers

anyone got a DL link to Koopman's recording of the Bach Xmas Oratorio, please?

Why the hell do people need to ask for it, why not just include it in the mega folder for convenience's sake?

(Sorry for late reply)
Fortepiano, Carl Bechstein, 1869.

That's pretty specific. I guess it's one more selling point for Staier aside from his good playing.

youtube.com/watch?v=8HON4AswPVk

Bump.

>What are your thoughts on Glenn Gould?

not always tasteful, but when it comes to technique second to none. especially love his bach keyboard concertos.

yes. one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. that run of operas from salome to daphne is absolutely incredible.

>the last good composer was Ravel

you should listen to poulenc.

what do you guys think?
