What part of Spice and Wolf did you like? Do you want more romance anime? (I'd recommend: Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, ef: A Tale of Memories, ef: A Tale of Melodies, Byousoku 5 Centimeter (fantasitc movie!), Maoyuu Maou Yuusha (Have not seen it myself but i think it is similar))

El Cazador de la Bruja is another great adventure series, more gunslinging and less merchantry but it's still a fantastic "journey for the sake of journey" anime.
Also Kino no Tabi in the same vein as El Cazador.

Michiko to Hatchin have a similar lonely feel.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha was rec'd already and I'd agree it's like Spice and Wolf with demons. I liked it.
