Is Hip Hop high art?

that album is high hip-hop

yes

no

This is high hip-hop

Then what album is high art?

Yes and this album specifically is a fucking masterpiece in terms of production and lyrics

Stright Outta Compton is better.

My eyes are bleeding

not really, at its core it's about lower class struggle and made by the lower class
on the other hand, these guys made that one unique album that was supposed to be shown or rather auditioned in art museums, which is a pretty "high art" thing, obviously

Stop offering your opinions on music and go back to eating tv dinners.

>falling for the ebin b8

I think it's hard to push hiphop off as high art in general. A lot of the stuff that's being released gives me this generic vibe. i.e. a lot of hiphop albums sound like they follow a strict guidelines in terms of visuals, content of lyrics, instrumentals, the way an artist should act and behave etc. I just feel like the thought process when making an album is almost non-existent for a big chunk of contemporary hiphop, just do what the others are doing and you'll be fine. And if you, as an artist/rapper, want to come off as a highly intellectual woke person that sticks out of the group, you throw some horns section, psuedo-intellectual shallow lyrics, jazz and funk fusion in there like Kendrick or Gambino or J. Cole and people see you as a prophet.

Exceptions to this generalization I just made are ppl like Salt n Pepa, Beastie Boys, Death Grips (I'm sorry), Madlib, Die Antwoord etc.

interesting you picked salt n pepa
why?

Why do I always fall for mu's trolls?
>Get BBF hosted by DJ Escrow
>Opening song is str8 beans, "proud to be British"
Oh well I hope it gets better.
>There are some other nice beats
>Prolific Demons comes on.
> Literally just a guy talking over noise
Not good outta 10

Yea definitely doesn't belong in the top of the year lists but everyone is different.
Be careful cause Stealth featured the same sample over and over again

Nah, give it a few decades then maybe it'll reach there. Jazz didn't become something artsy decades into its existence roughly about 50 years into its existence. So maybe in a couple decades at least? But then, at the same time rock music should've become high art a while back and it hasn't really been chased into that route so who knows.
