Is this, dare I say it, the best modern horror movie made?

Is this, dare I say it, the best modern horror movie made?

The Babadook
It Follows
The Witch

The only horrors you need to see.

If you're a pleb.

>lol she was in the pictures all along xD

The Babadook - overrated and not half as clever or subtle as it thinks it is.

It Follows - enjoyable genre piece that lacks pretension, but not much more than that.

The Witch - very well made but not scary.

I swear to god horror has a lower threshold for 'masterpieces' than any other genre.

What did she see?

An omen desu

You're right, bitch.

DON'T POST IT

The House of the Devil is the true winner

Too bad everything Ti West did after it sucked. He's like the m night shyamalan of horror

Absolute shite

>89 minutes of literally nothing happening.
>1 minute of too spoopy
>best anything

Let me guess, grave encounters is in the laminated top 10 horror movie of all time you keep on your suede vest?

THIS THIS SO MUCH
people are enthralled with something in horror that's just not mediocre
it's infuriating to hail the ones you mentioned as masterpeices, when they just delivered a bit more than the low threshold.

fuck it's like some horror circlejerk, where they won't critically examine movies that do just good enough

Most of horror masterpieces are only considered such because of nostalgia. There are very few and in between.

Some people consider Scream a masterpiece.

It says a lot about how much worse Horror has become when House of the Devil is considered the best of recent.

I've heard arguments for scream because it was the first one to subvert the genre and change it into something unique and different- thus the accolades.
but it's no alien or thing.- funny how the most acclaimed horrors are creature features.

Lake Mungo was a huge letdown for me.
I love slow burn horror but it just didn't do it for me. If anything it just bummed me out because of how sad it was, but it didn't feel like horror at all.
Make your own judgments if you haven't seen it, but I feel like it's incredibly overrated.

it's the kind of movie that would've been scary if you didn't know the whole time that it was bullshit. Just like The Blair Witch project was good because you didn't. That said, it still had some interesting twists in it.

listen, babadook didn't come out with the tagline, 'the best horror film of all time!' thats what everyone else put on it. the bottom line is that, outside of being a creepy monster flick, it's a poignant psychological horror film. though scary only sometimes, it is consistently stressful, and that's the hallmark of psychological horror.

He directed "the sacrament" which is really good!

My weenus peanus ! :)
What she saw was, of course, my weenus peanus !
ITT: The thing she saw was my weenus penus haha ! :D

really? I'm a bit hesitant to watch it.
I also dont get the praise for the innkeepers, it was alright. nothing more.

I thought it was a fun ride, granted if features a lot of AJ Bowen who I really like as an actor. I didn't much care for inkeepers either. It was slow like house of the devil, but lacked the insane ending

krampus was better than those

>I'm 20 years old and my taste in horror is fucking superior: the list

*16 years old

lol I always have to open the thread in a new tab and hide the thread in the main board whenever Lake Mungo is mentioned

Boring, pointless, one single jump scare at the end.

I liked the part where she was having the threesome with the neighbors though.

>THIS THIS SO MUCH

Just curious do guys ever actually talk like that here or are you a girl btw?

>overrated

Fuck off with that bullshit """"""complaint""""""

If you didn't like it, you didn't like it. Don't prop up your shitty opinion (which you're entitled to, of course) against general consensus

This guy.

Overrated is a valid complaint. Just because you dislike it doesn't make it invalid.

Sorry.

*embryo years old

VHS 1 & 2 were unironically the best anthology horror films made in the past 20 years.

the only good vhs was the thai one. and thats because it was made by the guy who did the raid

Lake Mungo only pawn...in game of life..

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

no

Are you retarded?

Ok, add that in. My bad.

Just saw this the other night, really good.
Any other good jap horror films?

Jap or asian in general? Because Shutter and Coming Soon are pretty good.

>it follows

wow kid, adquire some taste before posting this kind of fucking retarded shit

A movie Sup Forums tricked me into watching by saying it was one of the best and creepiest found footage movies ever.

First of all, it's not found footage. It's most like a documentary. Second, literally nothing happens and by literally I really mean it. It's just a bunch of people being interviewed and every now and then they zoom in on a picture with a "ghost" in it while "spooky" music plays in the background. I can't understand how anyone over the age of 10 would be scared by this. A complete waste of time.

Definitely up there. It and They Look Like People are miles better than the ones this guy mentioned

I said jap you fucking retard.

>All three have been called "best horror in many years"
>Neither are above 6/10

Never listen to hype.

Pulse, Dark Water, Kuroneko, Haze.

This movie triggered some claustrophobia at times and the first half hour was pretty good especially when they first started delving into the catacombs/the catacomb cult/finding the phone/etc. Fell apart when they started triggering scooby doo traps and that chick became a zombie. Picked up a bit again near the very end running through the tunnels but overall mediocre

6/10 is enough to be best horror of the decade, this genre is trash.

This is fucking great. A true patrician choice and an absolute must watch on Halloween.

The idea that someone sees their own fucked up looking ghost before they even die, and the ghost reveals to them how they are going to die.

Also, that the neighbors were using her as a sex toy for years on end.

>Sorry there wasn't enough jump scares, my teenage friend

>The idea that someone sees their own fucked up looking ghost before they even die, and the ghost reveals to them how they are going to die.

That's not scary. It's retarded.

Martyrs is my favorite. Absentia is probably #2.

Maniac was great, the first-person perspective stuff got annoying at times and some of the delivery from Yung Elijah was corny, but it's still top tier.

No, it's not. Horror occasionally reach 7 and 8.

Are you ok?

he seems to be slightly perturbed

Well this thread is pretty spoopy

I haven't seen babadook, but witch is a much, much higher quality endeavor than it follows. And no, I'm not just talking about production value and meme accents. It's a great movie all around.

checked
I get it's a great movie, it is very well done, but even tho it's a head above the usual trash does not make it one of the greats

oh and fucking Kill List. That movie is incredible.

Yeah right

Aha sure it is

The Fagabook -- just fucking stupid and corny.

It Follows -- it bores.

The Witch -- ZzzzzZzzzz.. zz.. zzzZZzzzz....

Mungo Lake -- w-why is the scene so dark... hurr im walkin SLOWLY through the kitchen... interviews dude so realistic... let's pan in REAL SLOW on this underexposed photo to SLOWLY reveal.... fucking nothing

Is the horror audience the literal worst out of every single movie genre?
>le if something doesn't jump out every second it's not scary XD
Fucking neck yourselves.

But horror was never really art in the way that any other genre has been considered. There's nothing patrician about films like Alien or The Thing, but be damned if they aren't great flicks.

/thread

Horror directors are the problem. Firstly almost every serious American/European director is too pretentious to touch it, and if somebody does they have to put some forced self-aware meta wank in there.

this user
every director in horror is a douce or an idiot.
its the non-horror guys that make masterpieces

Does anyone else get really mad at scenes like that or films in general? Holy shit, it's like you're intentionally being a stupid director/writer who can only do cliches.

This fucking movie Woman in Black 2 had a couple of Grave Encounters-like moments. It was retarded.

10/10

bump

if anyone ever remakes this movie without the john carpenter variety show features, it can be creepy as fuck, in the manner of Mothman Prophecies
