AOTY 2016

AOTY 2016

post charts, r8, discuss, and above all recommend 2016 shit.

Don't be a lazy asshole or shitposter edition

I don't know this album, what's it like

are you making fun of me? I can never tell anymore. Anyway, it's been posted here like crazy since its release and it's basically a blend of hip hop and post-punk with manic, high pitched vocals with claustrophobic and dark party-conducive atmospheres

>are you making fun of me? I can never tell anymore
not at all

You have horrible taste please do not respond to me again.

...

spoken like a true imbecile that hasn't even listened to it

answer me this, how in the world does one judge an album he hasn't even heard? Seems pretty fucked up to me

Not that guy but can you justify your rating for that album? I personally didn't enjoy it very much

ya I mean to preface, A7X is just one of my favorite bands in general so it's not like an objective rating by any means. But I just found the lyrics to be a very tasteful and relatable approach to the increasingly cliche themes of mortality and artificial intelligence, and the guitar riffs and general performances are undeniable. I think going progressive was ingenious, and really came together very well on tracks like the title track and Angels, which was my favorite on the album. Exist is a great song too for that, and the guitar playing again is just very rhythmic and expressive. Of course the vocals aren't on par with past releases of theirs and they fall back to their Hail To The King(fuck that album) tendencies on tracks like God Damn, but I think it's a great prog metal record and having Brooks from Bad Religion on drums really brought the whole dynamic together.

havent listened to a lot this year but my top 5 would be

1)Frank ocean-blonde
2)David bowie-blackstar
3)kanye-pablo
4)Angel olsen-my woman
5)Childish gambino-awaken my love

radiohead, DG, danny brown and tim hecker were ok

My top 20 in some semblance of an order
