RIFF GOD

...

my nigga

he;s not that good.

No other living guitarist gets close to nailing as many different styles as Guthrie Govan

the "I don't just listen to metal! I like all kinds of stuff!" meme guitarist.

underrated post

>be one of the best brit guitarists ever
>retire after 3 albums to paint

JUST

...

He's good but his music is so fucking boring. What a waste,

Honestly
Corgan can play but he's so good at getting an amazing sound too.

His tone on Siamese Dream and some of the heavier stuff on Mellon Collie is the stuff of dreams

Dimitris Kotronakis

>Helios Creed

I like you.

>electric """""""guitarists"""""""

Tbh, considering time, disability, mental state, and his life as a whole, he's the greatest of all time

the guy from limp bizkit

not really

shut up white bitch

I like Doug Martsch.

You aren't wrong, but this says a lot about you.

his scale is awesome

im not white dumbass

This

agreed

>jazz and classical guitarists inherently the most skilled
>never get recognition over rock stars

sucks for them

in his particular case, a lot of other 'famous' guitarists, including at least 3 from this thread alone, have cited him as one of the best at one time or another.

White people invented the guitar, nig-nog

Also, Dave Mustaine

youtube.com/watch?v=4qEnFuFquaY

yeah I'm sure they get name dropped as influences

just think it's a bit deceptive when you read those "100 best guitarists" articles or whatever when I'm sure there are plenty of niche players just as good if not better than most of them

...

you have to go back

He's out of retirement, but he's got way too few albums out.

I like you too

Patrician taste, user.

Have some Knopfler.

You haven't heard every living guitarist. Guthrie is a great guitar player but he's no better or worse than your standard G4 guitarist. Buckethead is pretty good man. Just because he releases 200 albums a year doesn't mean they aren't good. I like them more than most of his old material, besides Bucketheadland and giant robot stuff. Buckethead is amazing. Tosin is good too but Buckethead would win any day in any sort of comparison contest. Buckethead can slap too.

tfw you're too patrician to listen to bad music but too pleb to listen to good music so you listen to nothing

>shredding piece of shit
penn.jpg

>tfw when musically illiterate and think muh Maj7 is artistic genius

Yes.

If the point was subtle, it was that a wikipedia article isn't much of an opinion

More like mediterraneans/moorish, but okay.

his guitar moves episode is actually really interesting, he's definitely original

I will NEVER not agree with this

His music makes me feel overwhelmed by emotion at times. There are "better" guitarists out there but he's the only one who can fuk me up with just a few chords on an acoustic somehow

...

Why are other guitarists even trying?

thirding bicorg

Best post in the thread so far

top kek, I wonder what kind of bridge he used

Babylonia, dated circa 1850 B.C., possibly earlier by Egyptians.

Pete Cosey

no it's
>Jason "was better at 12 years old than you will ever be" Becker

>Jason "never got past playing scales really fast, lacking phrasing and using really cliché harmony" Becker

He could play really fast. His compositions were mediocre at best.

Dude, have you even heard the perspective album? And 'Air' from 'Perpetual Burn' is also really good. Plus *some* Cacophony stuff (Images, Concerto). You can't say he doesn't have good phrasing, that's objectively wrong.

Julian Bream and John Williams

what the fuck man
youtube.com/watch?v=fTx0ms0tfCE

>one and only

Yes I have heard it all, I was once a teenager, I know about all of that. The counterpoint and the harmony in Air, Concerto etc. is mediocre. The average failed composer in Vienna in the 1700's could write that sort of stuff on his toilet paper, composition students today alike.

>mfw other anons arguing about counterpoints and composition students and phrasing
>mfw most of the music I enjoy are songs made of four or five chords
>can play most of it even though I barely know the natural minor scale

Rec me the best and most complex classical-influenced metal though, I want to try it

If he was so good why did he die?

This is university level stuff i.e. 10+ years of experience

As for classical-influenced metal, it is rarely complex outside of speed.

fuck missed it

J Mascis is one of the best guitar players to ever have existed

d-d-does acoustic stuff count?

Yes

you can't be serious here m80

there can be only one

Wake me up. I went into a diabetic coma.

These'll do it (from experience): lacemusic.com/Value_Red_Silver_Blue_3_Pack.php

without a doubt, THE best guitar player on the planet. i've seen him perform live and met him on several occasions.

Matt Pike.

Flashy guitar playing doesn't interest me, I don't care who is the best, I care about who is making the music that truly draws me in, I care mostly about tone and riff writing. Pike obviously nails that shit. The stuff he did with Sleep is legendary but there has pretty much never been a High on Fire album that didn't have amazing riff after amazing riff.

maybe...but why does it all seem so bland and uncompelling?

...

Are you even trying
