It's a manga that's been running for 20+ years now, and it's pretty incredible. One of the things that's most interesting about it, is that the author has basically reinvented himself in his style several times throughout the series, while still keeping it true to its roots. During the first 10 volumes (referred to collectively as the "Golden Age" arc), it's basically gritty 80s style manga of purely dark medieval warfare, becoming borderlined historical fiction. but in volumes 11-12+ literally hell opens up and pours itself onto earth evil dead style but in a completely serious manner. Over the next ~5 volumes you have every bit of bad in his world corrupted and risen to full blown demonic rape-fests; corrupt priests burning everyone at the stake, packs of roving goblins kidnapping women, raping and impregnating them to make more monsters, an evil god-emporer who tries to take over the world etc. It then turns into a traditional swords/sorcery fantasy where Guts assembles a team of rag-tag heroes to destroy the five God Hands of hell, one of whom was his best friend and rival during the Golden Age.

so what is your opinion on the new season so far?

...

CGI aside, I'm enjoying it. It's been nice to see certain scenes animated.
Some characters have been very enjoyable, such as Mozgus and Luca.
Some have been questionable, Skull Knight looks more like Metal Knight, but he's only showed up once.

There have been a few very well done scenes which I was surprised to see.

Rest have ranged from weirdly animated to above average.

Music's pretty good, planning on downloading the CD when it comes out, some songs I want. Apparently Shiro Sagisu produced twice a many songs as he was contracted to which is pretty crazy.

Your thoughts?

Hey 911!
What's up?

When i watched the first episode i was so disappointed by the shit cg. Its growing on me because the story is just too good to deny. I read the manga after watching the first season years ago. Im nowhere near current on the manga now tho.

...

Same, I became a little desensitized to the bad CGI.
Should get caught up on the manga, some crazy happenings.
Where did you leave off?

End of Chapter 189

Onto 190

Not much really, did a slayer task or two and got my herblore & farming up for fairytale II. Probably gonna do it tomorrow and hopefully finish up this clue scroll. Not much else though, you?

...

So they released a new season, damn I thought they would never do that, how much time transpired?10 years?

Have fun doing it. Is pretty easy and quick.
What'd you do for farming?

Not too much, been on an elf slayer task and did 3 clues, nothing great, but got 80 slayer. Gonna train for hard dairy reqs next.
Other than that, watched new Onara Gorou, Berserk, and ep 18 of Re Zero which was pretty great. Rem's confession was well done.

It wouldn't be so bad if they focused on what happened in the manga rather than making shit up

First season was 1997-1998, so it's been 19 years.

It's been following the manga pretty closely save for episode 4, which was anime-original, but Miura was in charge of it anyways.

...

...

Just did trees, pretty expensive but quick since you don't have to worry about disease and such.

>Gonna train for hard dairy reqs next.
That far off?

...

Might have to look into trees, then.

Pic related, levels I need, level I'm at, how much more I need to go to get there.
Probably going to do thieving and agility mainly with everything else in between a few levels to break it up.

...

...

lol this was 10 years ago. He had the berserk armor tho. I remember him fighting an epic demon that was made of clouds and shit

...

That might be the fight with Daiba. He teamed up with Zodd and took him to the cleaners, IIRC.
Great fight.

Never.

What's new? Thought on ep 6?

wait wait i haven't watched it yet!!!!!1

I have not watched yet, hoping to watch tonight. I am just going crazy trying to get stuff done.

its all good, I know to lay off spoilers if I mention them.

How could you!
Go watch it right now and report back for tomorrow night's thread.

Gotcha, IRL stuff is more important.
I thought ep 6 was pretty good, I think you'll enjoy it.

Thanks, I think the series seems to be getting better at least.

I would agree, they're settling into things.
I wonder what it'd be like watching it and having no idea what Berserk is, it'd probably be incredibly confusing.

much appreciated

OK OK

Completely agree.

Damn all of you, now I have to continue reading the mango, And begin watching the animations now.

if you don't want to watch all of the first season you can watch the OVAs. the first one is on netflix

>OVAs
Dammit.

there's 3 of them. each is an hour and a half. they are cg but animated very well.

I'd recommend the anime series over the movies, it takes longer, but it's much higher quality and does a good job at capturing the atmosphere and spirit of Berserk.

The main thing with the movies was that they cut out a lot of great content, which was expected, as well as covering the Golden Age arc for the third time. The CGI was questionable, but I'll agree that it got better.

I'd only recommend it after reading the manga and watching the first season, as a way to get more Berserk in a different way.

>Daiba

literally who

his name is Emperor Ganishka

To clarify, when this poster says anime I'm most likely assuming they're referring to the 1997 anime.

Do not watch the 2016 anime. It is absolutely garbage and does not start from the beginning of the manga.

The 1997 anime is an absolute masterpiece and follows the manga truly (except for one minor part that they left out, no biggie)

The only thing that sucks about the 1997 anime is it only covers like, 15% of the manga.

Thanks for the recommendation, also those chihayas...

One minor part?!

>no puck
>no skull knight
>stops abruptly

you sir have nostalgia goggles on.

also funding was cut for it so many scenes are just a still image where they zoom in and pan over it.

yes it is a great anime, but you are overlooking its flaws. The OVAs are good quality and skip only necessary shit.

Daiba is Ganishika's top sorcerer.
Guts never fought Ganishika, but he did fight Daiba.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's absolute garbage. It doesn't hold a candle to the 1997 anime, much less the manga, but it's a step up from the movies and it has been enjoyable at parts.
That being said, I'm not saying it's that good, but it has its moments.

Chihaya is Miura's waifu, too.

I'm still upset the movies cut out Wyald.
Fun things are fun.

the leader of the Rhino Knights? I never read the golden age arc of the manga because i watched the 1997 series and skipped everything from the golden age ark

Wyald was the leader of the Black Dog Knights.
There's the Purple Rhino Knights which were part of Chuder's army.

Wyald was berserk.wikia.com/wiki/Wyald

He was pretty crazy.

Also you should definitely read through that part of the manga, it's great and you miss out on some things by not.

ill give it a read. thanks man
