There's a severe lack of DAW descriptions in the wiki. If you're good with your tool of choice, consider writing a paragraph about it.

Remember to use clyp.it to post your tracks/WIP: posting a clyp.it is just providing sound for a question, posting a Soundcloud link is making self-advertisement and the thread doesn't need that.
Remember to check other peoples' clyp.it links to keep the thread healthy.

also, do you use FL studio like this?
LOL lemme get ur LOLS in the thread pls
i like the panning. what vst did you use?
i mean not on the panning, i mean the pads
Diva
didn't see a /prod/ whoops
please help lads I'm a complete novice
Anyone know where I can get other free VSTs/software synths? Is it easy to get a crack these days?
cracking is as easy as loading a file nowadays
is the middle part too much? take away from the feel too much? or too sloppy?
cool, where can i get
>software version of a ladder filter
i'm only taking this because it's free
>cool where can i get
Just use google my friend
>arturia.com
goddamn their servers are slow! its gonna take an hour to grab something that would take me a minute elsewhere.
I made this goofy shit in 2 days. I'm not looking for feedback on the composition or anything but I would really appreciate any feedback on the mixing and sound design. Let me know what was good and bad pls
too much in what way? I thought this had a consistent feel throughout it, a really chilled out jam. I like the drums a lot. Good job, cutiepie
the constant panning in the lead is kinda annoying. but it sounds pretty aight in terms of mixing
>clyp.it
this would make a dope house track
clyp.it
How did i do on the drums?
opinions /prod/ ?
trying to go for a unique EDM Banger fused with symphonic elements, only a taster on what the album I'm working on is about. and I know the mix on this is pretty terrible, it's more like, the idea.
got a korg volca keys as my first synth a couple weeks ago but the sound feels somewhat limited
what would be a better investment, an effects pedal and a midi keyboard or a volca beats drum machine?
>clyp.it
1:35 is pretty cool and sort of reminds me of classic deadmau5
would get the midi keyboard if you dont already have one.
i'm completely new to electronic music
do the settings/effects on a midi keyboard affect the synth sound when it's plugged into it or should i just get a minimalistic one without the extra features?
can someone suggest a good free organ plugin for osx? i want to make some reggae type stuff.
>clyp.it
really good programming bruh
stylistically it sounds pretty derived and predictable tho. And the sound design is kinda generic too.
I do like the chord progression though and how your leads cut through with a really harmonizing melody.
no... also its advisable to get one with some knobs or faders that you can assign to various things.
ay thanks man
thanks man, mixing is ass and sound design was functional, just classic supersaws and square leads, just wanted to get the idea across. bur i spend a huge amount of time designing cool sounds on my serious projects, this is more like a sketch.
I have no idea how to feel about this right now. Should I just drop this? clyp.it
>clyp.it
holy shit, this is great man, couple of minor mix issues but this is definitely great stuff!
I'll definitely work on the mix the more I get into it. Right now I'm not sure where to go with this.
what's the intro like? just kinda jumps right into it
Right now there is no intro, I was just kind of throwing some ideas together earlier when I made it. Usually the intros to what I make end up being pretty solid. I'm more worried about what's after this.
literally any free vst synth have an organ presset shit its easily emulable.
how's my guitar mixing? my leads have this pick-scrape noise that's hard to get rid of with EQ
It sounds nice to me but I'm definitely not an expert.
>Found the Machinedrum through musicians I listen to
>Think it's fucking rad but super expensive and apparently discontinued
Is there a modern-day successor to the Machinedrum? Or something that can squeeze out similar sounds at less than $800?
this is an interesting idea but it's pretty poorly executed.
I have to hear it in context, it sounds kinda flat right now, is it running thru an amp?
>this is an interesting idea but it's pretty poorly executed
care to elaborate?
I like the whole idea with the mangled voices and those chords along with the trappy beat, it's actually very nice. however the drums aren't as punchy as I'd want them to be, some of the chords don't seem to flow that well but for the most part it's fine, also it needs more foley, it sounds kinda empty, pretty much nothing going on at the mid-rangey area, drum programming is pretty nice but I'm not too fond of a few of those things going on there like some of the crashes, the verse you have with the voice and those polychords is top notch tho
Scrap or is this not that bad
How long have you been /prod/ing?
so no one's giving me any response? fuck its just like real life.
hmm i didn't even think about the mid range area. I agree on the drums ill def fix those.
thank you for your imput!
nice work
the drums sound nice
its pretty fucking dope man
This isn't that bad but I'm not really into the melody.
True, read about melody composition. There are way too many jumps, melody should ideally have more smooth stepwise motion than jumps, it should have high points and low points, but composed with care. It has to make sense.
Are there any MIDI creators with an interface similar to Synthesia's screen? Like, with a keyboard and a table of notes which you can increase the length of, and the notes fall towards the keyboard while the MIDI is being played? Alternatively, does Synthesia allow you to make MIDI files itself and is it an easy process with Synthesia?
Production is exhausting. It fucks up with my compositional creativity when I have to think about all the sound design and effects and constantly try to not sound like shit. Just give me a simple classical instrument and I'm happy.
Anybody else feels like this too?
i like to write using romplers and switch out the sound later
about a year now, why do you ask?
here
I've been using Anvil Studio, but I don't really enjoy the interface.
Because it sounds pretty good. I have been at it for 2 years and I don't think I can come even close. How much do you /prod/ on a daily basis, do you have a background in music? That's pretty surprising if you have been doing this for only a year.
I try to open my DAW every day, honestly I haven't been going out this past year at all or doing anything else during my free time than make music. when I'm not making music I try to listen to music or generate melodies and I always write notes down or record ideas.
and yeah, before getting into electronic stuff and production I used to listen to tons of classical/orchestral music and I worked on Sibelius with scores.
oh and, thanks a lot man, post some of your music?
>tfw I can never hear a difference when I compress something
I want to commit a haiku.
I used to have that too. you need to keep in mind that compression is mostly a utility effect, made to keep your volume levels in check. you're not supposed to hear it (not that much), it's mostly meant to work.
How should I go about transition from one sound to another?
Such as the change in sound around 1:00
clyp.it
Anyone knows about a good free disto VST?
Is that so really? I'm kinda like But I think there's still a big difference sometimes no? Like, drums in general in modern music sound heavily compressed
No lols, I actually like it.
What genre is this tho? If you're trying to make something out of the mainstream you may as well just experiment for this and go with whatever feels good to your ears. If you want to surprise the listener do an abrupt transition, if you want to get him into an hypnotic kind of mood be more subtle about the transitions, etc
Thanks for the advice, I'll think of something.
do you guys think i got the right vibe going for a setting like pic related
How does this sound /prod/?
>tfw not bangin enough to be a banger, yet not subtle enough to be ambient.
Memes aside I like it.
I haven't ever been on this board, let alone /prod/ general. I just want to know if I'm biting more than I can chew. I don't know any of the basics yet I'm kinda attempting music that needs the fundamentals understood in order to sound good. I'm just doing everything by ear for now.
Any suggestions on what to practice more? I know everything is a bit off-beat, I'll try to finalize the song soon.
Witch is generally better for live playing, Bitwig or Ableton?
Thanks! I hoping its closer to banger than ambient though ;)
Throw a kick on your mix to get some lower frequencies in. There's tons of different patterns and styles you could try to give your mix some more life and movement. Plus if you sidechain to that, you could have an entirely different feel to the song. Overall, it honestly sounds like chill song from runescape, which is kinda dope.
>7/10 would sell flax to for 5k in cammy
A used one. An lxr drum machine is similar, suspiciously so as if they tried to copy it, but it's a kit you need to make yourself. Other than that Arturia's new drum machine is interesting though it's not as complex with the sequencing.
I'm a beginner having trouble making compositions. I can do short riffs and things, but I can't expand them into anything bigger. Hoping to overcome this soon. Also wanting to bump the thread.
wait a second
when recording audio from a synth do I need to plug into 2 Audio ins? I've noticed every video I've watched has 2 jacks plugged into 2 audio inputs. I only have a 1 jack cable plugged into input 3 and I'm not getting any audio, but there's a constant signal coming through.
okay so I got audio from my MS20 but I can't get audio from my Volca bass
what the fug
>when recording audio from a synth do I need to plug into 2 Audio ins?
Depends on the synth
>I've noticed every video I've watched has 2 jacks plugged into 2 audio inputs. I only have a 1 jack cable plugged into input 3 and I'm not getting any audio, but there's a constant signal coming through.
This is way too vague.
give us some deets on your equipment/signal path so we can help troubleshoot it my man
I'm about to fall asleep, but I'm trying to record audio from my Volca bass in Ableton. I'm running MIDI from Ableton through my Focusrite Scarlett, and signal out from my Volca to audio input 3 on my interface. All audio inputs are activated in Ableton, and I'm receiving a signal but audio only plays through my synth rather than the computer. I have no problem recording audio from my MS20 though. It seems like with the volcas you need one of pic related which I just ordered, that might be my problem? I can't think of anything else I'm doing wrong. I'm quite new to hardware and this is all so overwhelming
really nice
teach me your ways
Thank you dudes
Every day
>I'm receiving a signal
In ableton as in the light's flashing top right?
I assume you've gone into preferences and connected your volca bass
Have you record armed your track? Is your track monitor on 'in' or auto
Actually it wouldn't be light top right 'cause that's midi
All right but shen the snare and kick happen simultaneously its distracting
Also your kick sounds too loud, too much low lows
Yeah. I noticed that too.
I need proper headphones I can never tell if the mix is right haha. especially with those lows . ty for feedback
What should I use to get realistic drums? I'm tired of relying on uncommon percussion sounds for beats
Yeah m8 the chord progression in the drop doesn't even resolve, cunts fucked. People want a release in tension in the drop.
You seem to have quite decent production skills but it's pretty generic structure wise. Nothing really stands out
I can barely hear the sub from 1:32 to 3:00. Try EQing the other frequenies so the sub has dominance over 30hz-250hz.
The best part of the song in my opinion is the intro and outro because you can actually hear the sub lmao.
You need to add an extra element halfway between 0:34 and 1:30. Gets boring pretty quickly. Also, when the 808 comes in, you need to make sure the sample ends when you play it again, like when you do drum rolls etc. Melody is understandably boring and there is zero mastering but you seem to have a good starting knowledge of structure, which is great. The drums punch through but the song could be WAY louder, learn about compression and distortion.
eq the main synth so it doesn't cut into you lows, maybe a little more distortion would be better. Personally I didn't like the melodies but that's my opinion. Good job.
yeah decent
Does not sound depressed at all, no percussion. alright I guess but the melodies are a bit cheesy
Idk if you were going for this or not, but the vocals are too quiet, pop them up by 2db or so. I think the snare sample should be changed for something a little more punchy, and I didn't like the synth in the second half. Very good overall though.
dd some d
why is there no mention of the volca range on the wiki? there some of the best value pieces out there and great for people starting out
should I get a zoom 505 multi effects pedal or dedicated behringer ones, i'm on a budget and haven't decided on a particular sound so i'm leaning to the multi
but is there a significant quality difference between them?
>significant quality difference
I doubt that, actually. Going modular with cheep Behringer/Nady/Danelectro/Rogue pedals is a lot more fun than having one multi FX unit. But it's also more of a hassle (all those power supplies/batteries, patch cables, etc). It's really gonna be up to you in the end, but the digital Zoom pedal is probably the best option imho.
•Most Effective Option On A Budget: Multi FX
•Most Fun Option On A Budget-Plus: A litter of cheep pedals
Made this tonight. Would love some feedback : )
Dont know if the drums are too much and Im not sure if the textures sound right.
btw I use ableton.
>clyp.it
I dig it. Cant really help with mixing tips though my mixing is horrible ^-^
>clyp.it
Honest your mixing sounds amazing to me
>it's a create a loop that sounds pretty good but can't make it a full song episode
every fucking time
This is the 2nd song of yours I've heard on these threads and I think you're one of the better producers here. The first track of yours I heard was Porter Robinson influenced and this one sounds more like deadmau5. I don't like either of those artists but you're doing a great job at making that popular EDMish sound. Keep going.
Reeeee! Requires windows 7 or higher
What is this genre called? youtube.com
So I can read up on it.
Hi guys, can i get good real time distortion on my usb audio interface(behringer umc22)?
It can be done in post-prod because the clean, unmodified signal is good, but when i use freeamp for distortion it gets all muddy and noisy
