Wow, none of their albums even charted in the US at all.
that's shocking
US confirmed for plebs
Status Quo just weren't unique or cool enough to get popular here.
>he pretends not to like Status quo
you're not even trying lads
I'm sure Noel Gallagher is pretty bummed about that.
that drummer is tripping me out
SQ were just like AC/DC, they made one song and recorded it dozens and dozens of times across their 350 albums.
>there are people who don´t like 70ś Quo
Piledriver [A&M, 1973]
No more plasticene for these lads--it's boogie all the way, and if only they'd go with stuff like "Don't Waste My Time" and "Big Fat Mama" for an entire side I might even wish 'em goodspeed. But of course they can't, they know boogie gets boring after a while, and so without a singer or an axeman or fancy chords they try a couple of ballads and a blues, which are also boring. C+
Rockin' All Over the World [Capitol, 1978]
In which Europe's premier boogie band remembers its commercial beginnings in pop psychedelica. You've heard the riffs these twelve simple rockers are based on before, and you're almost certain to enjoy hearing them again--both the filtered ensemble vocals and the limited solo space distance and depersonalize each cut into an artifact of ass-shake. Good old rock and roll in yet another award-winning costume. B+
Well they wrote "Pictures of Matchstick Men" which Camper Van Beethoven later covered, so I'll give them that.
Status Quo were ok in the early 70s, but like all of their contemporaries, they should have just stopped after punk happened.
Is Christgau the most plebian man alive?
Bob Dylan is next.
Such a shame. Status Quo were a genuinely good band who get an unfair amount of stick.
Fuck you for making me laugh at this.
I've always found that any album Christgau gives a C or D to is usually good and anything he gives an A to is shit.
Probably had to do with their later career as Top of the Pops rubbish and lame family entertainment, more of a corporation than a rock band. Like the other guy said, they should have just called it quits in 1977.
You're probably right, but Down Down is still a great song.
