>Thousands of teenagers will be getting these for Christmas

It hurts to think that some rarer records will be spun on these turntables.

this actually happened to me last year
along with a beatles greatest hits record

top kek

all I want for christmas is to fuck a cute indie teenager girl while listening to macdemarco on a crosley
is that asking too much?

All Beatles records deserve to be played on a crosley

>we know your a big music fan son, so we hope you like your gift! merry christmas!

Thanks mom I know you really care about me to have gotten me tedy andreas mad illusions on vinyl

>not telling your parents exactly what you want for Christmas

fair enough

What's wrong with them?

They can destroy the records due to high tracking force as well as from vibration caused by the built in speakers. Plus, you're much better off buying a used turntable/receiver, you'll get a superior product for the same or even less.

what are you a child

Oh, ok. I see people talking shit about them but I never knew why.

tfw too poor to celebrate christmas

heh i got genuinely happy for a cousin that got one last xmas, with a beatles record too like what a fucking meme lol
i dont even know if my old ass record player is good enough for the whole 3 vinyls i have...

Yeah, there are a few things that you want to look for when buying a turntable including a full platter to completely support the record, a counterweight to adjust tracking force, and a standard mount for cartridges. Most Crosleys have none of these.

Usually vintage is better anyways
I have an old pioneer turntable never fucked up my records once

>Puts too much weight on records and will scratch them
>has shitty built in speakers
>doesn't support records fully
>if the top part fell it would smash the record

The Memorex turntable I use is better.

>mfw I could probably do this because some pseudo hipster girl on tinder told me I was a 10/10 and had a "super indie look" lol

I'm not going to though

kill yourself

>Pioneer
Ayy

>"here user, I know you really like this band, so here the vinyl copy of your favorite album, merry christmas! It was pretty expensive, but I think it'll be worth it!"
>my eyes open wide as I unwrap the present, it's pic related
>but my excitement suddenly goes away when I check the back cover and see the Plain Recordings logo
>"t-thanks mom and dad"

It's a shame they suck because they look nice

post pics nerd

dude lol, at least my dad got me a Pixies greatest hits when I started asking for music

What is Plain Recordings and why are they bad

REEEEEEE NORMIE GET OFF MY BOARD

give five (5) good reasons why not

They do dogshit digital to vinyl reissues of a lot of 90s classics, like Loveless (their reissue was disowned by Kev Shields), Butthole Surfers, Mr Bungle, Ween, e.t.c

>HAHA YEA FUCK MY PARNTS FOR CARING ABUT ME >:(

i work at a music/movie store in canada and you have no idea how many of these we've sold in the past couple weeks

got a call the other day from some girl being like "i'm looking for a record player, the suitcase one" and i was like "the crosley portable?" and she was like "i dont know it looks like it's old like from the fourties or something"
FUCK THE HOLIDAYS, BOYS

No, but anyone whose parents are still spending £100-odd on them for Christmas probably are

I haven't gotten a Christmas present in years

but that's fine

Memes aside,I'm actually a little triggered

>vinyls
>s

I wanted something like that one christmas but got the wrong thing and I whined and bitched about it like a prissy child. Now Alexandria and Jason are sitting on that green recording me bitching about it and wanting to be a badass or something.

Turns out those things suck as much as our friends anyways.

I'm gonna hijack the thread for a minute; I told my family I wanted a turntable for Christmas, and they've decided to just let me pick one out online. They're fine with a price range around $200-$250, so what should I get in that bracket?

I've been reading the guides on the Sup Forums wikia, but I'm still very new to this so I wouldn't mind suggestions.

AT LP120

uturnaudio.com/products/orbit-basic-turntable?variant=33393451530

this

Either of these are good but I would get the LP120

lmao get off ur moms laptop tedy

>don't ship to the UK
>AT tables are ugly as sin

i hate being a fucking euro man

>using a turntable
>ever

how much memory does a vinyl have, deluded idiots? equivalent of like 5kb

Meanwhile my flash drive has 32GB of storage, thats way more tracks at way better quality

turn table fags are fucking retarded

Nothing wrong with crosleys. its pleb filter and at most they are going to just play their neutral milk hotels or animal collective records on them

My mom asks me every year for a list because she has no idea what things I want. I just put some albums on there that I don't have yet and she gets them if she can find them of Amazon.

One year I asked put Faust's self titled on the list and she got me pic related. It turned into a happy accident because I ended up loving the film.

>he doesn't use a steady hand to carve in extra grooves for a 256GB boost
Try not to have another stroke on the way out, gramps

What record player would you guys recommend to a first timer?

>be 13 (exactly half my life ago)
>ask for Led Zep 4 for Christmas
>get Led Zep 3

Thanks Dad. Also:

>about to turn 11
>ask for Green Day's Dookie for birthday
>get Warning

God dammit, Mom. NO WONDER THEY GOT DIVORCED. WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY LISTEN TO ME.

Audio Technica

sucks to be you. I'm an old-as-dirt adult, and my mom still buys tons of shit for me and my siblings at xmas because she's kinda nuts. I'm getting pic related this year.... They went on sale really cheap and I told her about them. She even thanked me.

>2017
>Sill hating Crosley

>Spending more than $100 on something I knew nothing about just seemed dumb.

That's why you study shit for free on the internet.

This thread is such a pretentious fucking circlejerk
The reasons people hate crosleys are just a gigantic fucking meme spread by 16 year olds who draw pictures of MC Rides tattoos on their desks at school
they aren't great, but they aren't bad for the reasons everyone fucking says

You should if you could. You'll regret it later in life.

But they are. They absolutely destroy records and sound awful.

do it while you still can user

trust some of us older disillusioned fags who were once like you

At least you have a family. A family who tries to give you something they think you'd want, at that.

+1, i love you

>work at best buy for the holidays
>daughter and mother come one looking for a turntable
>we have one Audio-Technica AT-LP120 for sale
>tell them how its a awesome beginner turntable and much better than what ever crosley they had
>really excited by what i was telling them
>bought and left talking about how they cant wait to hear it.

I did my good deed for the year Sup Forums

holy shit i have that pioneer, but the timing is a little off so i have been using my new (to me) marantz turntable.

this

fuck you

Just get a Rega or Pro-Ject

Sure, but when your boss fires you when he finds out the cheap-ass players stock are still full because you weren't pushing customers to buy them, you'll rethink your life and realize you need to sell your soul to the cold, bleeding machine of capitalism in order to get some food on your table

But he sold something that is sells at a higher price. He made his boss more money.

My mom still has her record player from the 80s in the basement
VERY excited to put it to use tomorrow

anyone else have a Thorens? td160 over here

what's a handful of LP120's compared to a shelfful of Cruisers?

we dont even have any of the cheap shit. Hell the majority of the turntables we sell come from magnolia with things like pro-ject carbons and newer marantz, thornes, music hall, and that really nice new sony.

no but fucking nice

t. never worked in retail

You're acting like I didn't do this last week

I'm not joking I actually got this

Go vintage, m8

If you've an only child it's pretty expected that you will get something nice for christmas

This is why you get CDs you fucking infidels

I'm looking to get into vinyl a bit. Just want a collection of my favorite albums.

Can anyone recommend a good turntable (I assume linear would be best?) for a price that won't break the bank?

This

>Poor people make shitty decisions: the review

Fucking hell, if you think spending a mere few hundred on a decent turntable is too much what the fuck are you even doing getting into an expensive format like vinyl in the first place?

I got into vinyl in June and found a good condition, fully working Technics SL-BD20 for $95AU, got a new elliptical stylus (stock is conical to my knowledge) for $31. It's not high end or anything but it sounds good, low tracking force and has a reputation for being reliable. Pretty fappy, senpai.

my mom got me this a couple years ago, opinions on it? i haven't done much research on turntables

This happened to me 5 years ago.

>tfw your sister get's one of these and is playing old vintage records on it from the 60s and 70s.
why even live

I already have a record player.

hell yeah

> grandpa regularly goes out looking for scrap
> found an old turntable from the 80s modeled after a 50s jukebox
> and a collection of Cuban records

I asked him if he uses it and he said all the time when he's working on one of his 4 trucks in the summer drinking Coronas. I'll probably end up getting an ATLP120, T Rex Electroc Warrior, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Black Lips Más Valientes... and a Joy Division Record.

A friend of mine had a busted up crosley and I just gutted it and used the suitcase as a carrying case for my guitar pedals

Oh and definetly Televisions Marquee Moon and The Stooges Raw Power

that is "i got this for 20$ from a flea market" -core, usually turntables that were the cheaper models back in the day. they work fine and probably won't fuck up your records, but i'd be careful using them. if that is the best you got at the moment, go ahead and put it to good use, but i wouldn't spin records valued over 30 on a record player as such.

>mfw got one of these for Christmas a couple of years ago and thought it was cool
>now realize it's a piece of crap with shit speakers
>mfw my brother's 20 year old combo turntable he bought at a flea market is superior simply because he can hook up good speakers to it

If you want a good piece of equipment, be prepared to spend a decent amount of money.

Forgot pic

Just got a Technics SL - 6, sell it or just keep it?

couldn't agree more

literally just got this but it's some other brand

So if i ever wanted to buy a turntable what should I look for and what should I avoid?

look for one with a weight on the tonearm

Nah I work at Best Buy too and yeah they may get pissy at numbers but it's not like we get commission so "the customer" is always technically number 1.

>tfw my mum said this excact thing to me two years ago and gave me a Rega RP1
tybm

>work as a target cashier
>two teenage girls come up to my register with a crosley
>"oh wow it has bluetooth!" says girl number one
>"yeah, i looked into it and its top quality audio" says girl number two
>they proceed to spend $150 on this shitbox and talk about how great it is
>eternal angry cackling in my head

Led zeppelin 3 is much better than 4 so.....

>top quality audio
they must have got that information from Tumblr because I legitimately cannot imagine any other site that believes it.
