To all the idiots questioning why Leaf didn't throw the grenade in the hallway: if she threw the grenade, the explosion would only take out the walking deads in front and the others would just keep running, there would barely be any delay.
By keeping them distracted for a few moments while they fully stopped their advance to tear her apart, she was able to help Bran and the others much more. Those additional seconds would have been enough for the skeles to reach the door before it could be held.

The concussive blast of the "grenade" was diminished because she decided to hold onto it while the deadites swarmed on top of her. The best option would have been to throw it up at the roof of the tunnel, thus maximizing the explosive potential of the "grenade", killing more zombies, and increasing the chance of collapsing the tunnel.
