Changed my life man, though Disintegration was where The Cure really came into their own.
The other three good albums are The Birthday Party's Junkyard, Bauhaus' In The Flat Field, and Christian Death's Only Theater of Pain.

Start at Filth, listen to the discography up through Public Castration, then stop.
If you want to check out the more goth-y sounding Swans, listen to the Children of God album.

have you heard his newest podcast about the Cure? it's cool to listen to someone with such an encyclopedic knowledge base talk about one of my favorite bands. it's a little TOO much information at points, but he contextualizes things in a way you don't get by just reading bios and rock histories.
