To answer the OP's question, I don't know, but since Trump is being painted as both renegade (he has some tendencies to be that at times) and a friend of Russia, I don't think another 9/11 will help him. If anything, a third party candidate who seems reasonable in demeanor and strong on national security rhetoric would get a bigger boost than either of the two main candidates. Hillary is from the incumbent party and would look weak (as would Obama), and Trump an unviable option.

Also voting matters when it concerns local, state, and congress.
