Didn't they invent music?
From 2008 to 2012 it did.
lol, not all of it, but they're the forthfathers of jazz which that influenced rock n roll which influenced everything you've ever listened to excluding classical music.
Liberian here.
Wizkid is really popular. Pretty nice vibes on alot of his songs.
eh this is kind of awful
to each their own
>that thumbnail
not even gonna click it
don't blame you, it's just pop music
I think it's pretty chill music, but like that guy said, to each their own.

I have an album of Ethiopian and Moroccan pop rock from the 70s that's pretty sweet. Thai shadow music and Iraqi pop is better, but still pretty cool.
Some Malian garage rock I've heard is also neat, if pretty expected. I think Africa's best hope is to ignore genres pioneered by African immigrants (a la blues, house, rap) and just explore the music culture of other realms.
I'm desperately waiting for the Liberian prog rock album that reconnects jazz to Africa while incorporating American hillbilly music. Like an inside out rock and roll.
What country are you from?

South Africa
Jump off a bridge, guy
Check out the Congotronics series. Kinshasan street bands from the Congo distorted metal thumb pianos and it sounds awesome, not unlike how the Brits and Americans distorted guitars in the 60s. I see somebody already posted Mbongwana Star. good shit.
The MENA Alternative music scene is growing bigger. This is a band from Egypt youtube.com
This is some fantastic stuff. Thank you for sharing

Im actually convinced that africans/african americans made some of the best music known to man.

But continue to worship the BBC whatev
Egypt has some good music, if you're into the Arabian-style music. And can understand Arabic.
were did it come from then? Pennsylvania?
Northern Africa has a great culture of Arabic music, like
Yalla yalla kill the infidels
yalla yalla my balls are bursting
bring the children
yalla yalla
...
I was half right, whatever
die antwoord
No, birds did.
Konono No. 1 and Kasai Allstars are great as well.
Batidia's collaboration with Konono No. 1 is one of my AOTYs
Bassekou Kouyate does something similar with the west African Ngoni, electrifying it. He fucking shreds too

Yes son, Mali uber alles
stop pretending to be black dude, its really sad.
yes,the african swallow did
Short Answer: Yes
Not much is worth listening to, heard an album by some cucked hollywood kike that he put out of these people who are living in an African prison who were making music.
It sounded okay, but it lacked counterpoint like most anything in music that was heavily influenced by slave songs so it sounds very foreign to me.
Most of the songs were laments about how shit they were as people or how shit Africa is. The idea is there, but they didn't take it that extra step and make it poetry.
>funny
>smart
pick one tryhard
sweet, thanks
fuck outta here
YES
>Mali mentioned
>no Tinariwen

Desert Blues is great if you can get past not understanding the lyrics.
From Egypt
youtube.com
Also sum jazz guy too
youtube.com
Tinariwen is entry-level plebcore.
But more seriously, I don't associate Desert Blues (basically Saharian Music by Tuaregs) with Mali, that I picture like a urban country, not a sand-filled area like northern countries (ie.Algeria, Marocco, etc.). Maybe I'm in the wrong tho.
Bombino is pretty based
He's probably amongst the top ten guitarist right now.

>Malian music
>plebcore
I laughed.
You may be right though on association though, only a handful of groups have come from there that you could categorize as that. Probably not even worth the effort thinking about it considering how diverse the discographies are.
I love this song
Beat me to it.
I've heard some great stuff from that site.

Can you give me recommendations of foreign pop music?
>le africa no music
Most of it isn't recorded, user. There is a lot of great African music. I kind of hate RYM but at least their genres are organized well. Click on any subset of "African Music", such as "West African Music" and another subset from there and click on "see all" for the top releases.
western culture spread to the third world long before the internet mate
Pygmy music is pretty great
theres a lot of cool funky psych rock soundin shit from the likes of the hygrades and WITCH
