Yes

Yes

No

Just clump it all under EDM and save yourself a headache.

NO but they are significantly different, like the difference between black metal and doom metal. You'd never mistake Candlemass for Darkthrone

Eh well house and techno started off pretty separately but they have had a lot of overlap

still it's pretty obvious what is house and what is techno if you listen to it at all

the difference is smaller than rock vs jazz, but is bigger than grunge vs punk

Of course they are.

Was rock not a ''separate, stand-alone, major genre'' in the 90s after existing for 30 odd years?

Raver sluts make me hard.

House and techno are significantly different in spirit, but there's a lot of overlap if you consider tech house, microhouse and some artists who don't really belong to one subgenre. You'll find a lot of DJ mixes mixing a bit of both too.

Downtempo is different and rather loosely defined, it can be somewhere between ambient and trip hop or sometimes between ambient and other electronic genres.

hnnnnng

Of course.

Techno is synthpop and funk

House is post-disco

Downtempo is an umbrella for a number of genres
